JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Water Pollution Control Authority Bureau Chief or designee, performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities of the Water Pollution Control Bureau; works evenings, nights and weekends; performs related work as directed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
> Performs related duties as required. > Operates and adjusts equipment such as pumps, motors, belt filter presses, sludge stabilization and drying equipment, screens, thickeners and clarifiers. > Takes samples and maintains records. > Notifies superiors of unusual conditions regarding plant operations. > Assists in the maintenance and repair of the plant, including but not limited to painting, cleaning and yard work. > Assists in the operation of the chlorine systems; connects and disconnects tanks; adjusts feed rates; performs monitoring tests for chlorine residuals. > Wears protective equipment as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES
> Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. > Good knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, meters and gauges. > Good knowledge of safety practices associated with mechanical and electrical equipment. > Ability to read and understand written material. > Ability to follow oral and written directions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school.
NOTE:
Employees will work in this classification for six (6) months. Upon successful completion of six (6) months of employment in the classification and possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License, promotion without examination will be made to the classification of Plant Operator I
  • WPCA.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must pass comprehensive medical examination prior to employment. At time of application, possession of a valid Driver's License.
SCOPE OF EXAMINATION
There will be an examination on a date to be determined, which will be weighted at 100% and will test for mechanical aptitude. Notice of examination will be sent via the email or NeoGov portal.
