Job Description

Job Overview The Plant Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the direct oversight and technical execution of multiple plant crews performing critical maintenance and repair services for the City of Atlanta's water and wastewater infrastructure. Operating as a high-impact link between project management and field operations, this role requires a "lead by example" approach where the Superintendent is both a supervisor and a technical expert capable of performing complex repairs alongside their crews. Duties & Responsibilities Supervise, mentor, and hold accountable multiple crews across various City of Atlanta sites. Ensure daily production and quality targets are met or exceeded. Interpret complex O&M manuals, as-built drawings, and mechanical specs to guide crews through facility retrofits. Inspect all critical facility infrastructure repairs, such as motor alignments, gearbox installs, and clarifier rebuilds. Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical/hydraulic failures in water basins, circular/rectangular clarifiers, and pump systems. Oversee high-precision preventative maintenance, such as clearing wet wells, cleaning/greasing pumps, and changing filters. Enforce adherence to OSHA, company, and the City's safety standards for confined space entry (wet wells), lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and fall protection. Qualifications & Requirements Proven experience in water/wastewater treatment plants and pump stations, with a specific focus on mechanical maintenance and infrastructure repair. Proven field leadership and the ability to manage multiple crews/site logistics. Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, O&M manuals, and legacy mechanical drawings. Expertise in repairing/rebuilding vertical turbine pumps, centrifugal pumps, gearboxes, and control instruments or systems. Proficiency in rotary/static equipment, diagnostic tools, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical components. OSHA 30, Confined Space Competent Person, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) certifications preferred. (State-certified Water/Wastewater Operator license or OEM-specific pump/motor certifications is a major plus). Valid driver's license (clean MVR) and ability to pass pre-employment drug screening/physical.
