Grade 31: $92,703•$113,269 Grade 33: $109,447•$133,757 West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site. JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible to ensure radiological control policies and procedures are incorporated into WVDP activities to protect workers, the public, and the environment, and to ensure compliance with industry standards pertaining to nuclear radiation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Grade 31
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in health physics or equivalent combination of education and related experience from an accredited institution. Minimum of three (3) years related professional experience. Two (2) years of DOE-related experience preferred.
Other Requirements:
Broad knowledge of radiological control and health physics. Ability to work in a consultative direction and on moderately complex work control activities. Ability to analyze diverse work control responsibilities and make routine decisions. May guide and direct nonexempt employees. Strong communication skills for participation in committees and planning. Proficiency in technical writing. Effective teaching skills for staff instruction. Ability to interface with internal and external individuals and groups.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / SCOPE OF WORK
•Grade 31 Maintain a safe and healthful work environment. Adhere to company standards, EEO practices, and DOE directives. Review and approve proposed work and design documents. Evaluate and interpret regulations for compliance. Provide consultation for planning radiological activities. Perform studies and prepare reports on radiation protection issues. Develop radiological control procedures. Lead small to medium radiological projects. Perform exposure rate and shielding calculations. Prepare specifications for radiological instruments and materials. Investigate and prepare radiological emergency reports. Participate in radiological control policy formation. Support training organizations. Perform dosimetry reviews and preliminary dose assessments. Regular on-site attendance required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Grade 33
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in health physics or equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited institution. Minimum of six (6) years related professional experience. Three (3) years DOE-related experience preferred.
Other Requirements:
Mastery knowledge of radiation protection and health physics principles. Ability to work independently on complex radiation control activities. Strong judgment for solving complex problems. Ability to interpret federal regulations and develop policies. Ability to direct lower-level employees and technicians. Creativity and research skills for implementing regulations. Mastery knowledge of industry-specific software. Ability to negotiate or resolve significant issues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / SCOPE OF WORK
•Grade 33 Maintain a safe and healthful work environment. Develop monitoring or dosimetry programs. Monitor and control radiation protection standards. Provide technical assistance on complex radiological issues. Lead medium to large radiological engineering projects. Perform advanced exposure and shielding calculations. Instruct radiological control training. Participate in purchasing documentation for radiation protection equipment. Support site-wide technical issues. Assist in compliance appraisals. Support training organizations. Assist radiation protection operations with resource scheduling and RWP management. Perform dose assessments and advanced evaluations.
