7am - 4:00pm, M-F
JOB SUMMARY
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in the servicing of the gas distribution system.
Examples of work performed:
Assist in locating breaks and leaks in gas pipelines; assist in keeping regular checks on gas pressure and odorant at regulator stations that supply gas to distribution system; perform construction tasks as needed to install gas mains and service lines; may perform welding duties involving steel and plastic pipe; install meters and regulators in response to application for service; will assist in turning on/off gas to customer, taking meter readings, lighting pilot lights, make physical inspection of connections and usability of equipment; will keep records and reports; operate a variety of light and heavy equipment; performs related work as needed. Subject to on-call duty.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions Ability to perform basic math functions Knowledge of city street names and locations Ability to regulate and make repairs on all types of gas equipment Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Ability to operate a variety of equipment Ability to keep routine records and make simple reports Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must pass Basic Operator Qualification Test. Must be able to pass a DOT Drug/Alcohol test. Must possess a valid TN driver's license and must be able to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year experience in pipeline construction or maintenance is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical:
Work involves considerable walking, digging, and lifting. May be required to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally. Frequent manual manipulation of pipes and hand tools. Operation of equipment requires good hand-eye coordination.
Environmental:
Exposed to extreme weather conditions, open ditches and pressurized gas mains/services. Possible exposure to fire and explosive atmosphere.
