Job Description

Portable Plant Batchman Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Portable Plant Batchman to operate and oversee the daily production of high-quality concrete at our portable batching facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating computerized batching systems, maintaining quality control standards, monitoring plant operations, and ensuring safe and efficient production while meeting customer specifications and delivery schedules. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operate computerized batching systems and plant controls to produce concrete according to approved mix designs. Load, proportion, and mix raw materials, including cement, aggregates, water, and admixtures, based on job tickets and specifications. Review load tickets and verify mix designs before each batch; communicate with the customer regarding order requirements and delivery schedules. Perform all plant opening and closing procedures. Monitor plant operations to identify and correct issues related to moisture content, slump, aggregate gradation, or other quality variables. Conduct pre-operational inspections of plant equipment, including conveyors, bins, scales, and mixers, and report any deficiencies. Perform routine quality control testing, including slump, air content, and unit weight testing in accordance with ASTM standards. Maintain accurate production records, batch tickets, daily logs, material usage reports, and documentation of any non-conforming products. Coordinate with ready-mix truck drivers to ensure proper loading, sequencing, and timely deliveries. Monitor raw material inventory levels and notify management of low stock or quality concerns. Perform routine maintenance, housekeeping, and cleaning of batching equipment, conveyors, and plant areas. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and environmentally compliant work environment. Assist with general plant maintenance and repairs as directed by the Plant Manager. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in ready-mix concrete production, portable batching operations, or a similar industrial environment required. Ability to operate computerized batching and plant control systems. Working knowledge of concrete mix designs and quality control procedures is required. Strong mathematical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust. Must be able to always wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
