Lead Utility Operator / Field Supervisor Tryon Road Special Utility District (SUD) - North Longview Texas (Judson/Maxey Acres) Tryon Road SUD is seeking an experienced Lead Utility Operator / Field Supervisor to oversee daily field operations for our water and wastewater systems. This role provides advanced technical leadership, supervises field crews, and ensures safe, reliable service for our customers while maintaining full regulatory compliance. About the Role The Lead Utility Operator directs and performs complex work involving groundwater wells, treatment facilities, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems. This position is responsible for coordinating field activities, supervising personnel, managing repairs, and working closely with engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Key Responsibilities Operate and oversee groundwater wells, treatment equipment, and booster pump stations Maintain water distribution infrastructure including valves, hydrants, PRVs, and service connections Inspect, diagnose, and direct repair of leaks, service issues, and main breaks Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, track hoe) for excavation, trenching, backfilling, and site restoration Provide daily supervision, leadership, and direction to field personnel Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment Prioritize daily work activities and coordinate emergency response Work with engineers, contractors, developers, and regulatory agencies Coordinate with purchased water suppliers during peak demand or outages Maintain communication with General Manager and Office Manager regarding jobs, outages, and schedules Ensure compliance with TCEQ, TWDB, and all regulatory requirements Maintain and enforce safety standards Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid Texas driver's license Ability to obtain required TCEQ licenses Preferred Qualifications TCEQ Class C Groundwater License or higher TCEQ Wastewater Collection I or higher Experience in water and wastewater system operations Experience with electrical systems, instrumentation, and SCADA Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and decision‑making skills Ability to manage crews, projects, and field operations Effective communication and coordination abilities
Compensation & Benefits Pay Range:
$70,000-$80,000 per year depending on experience. Pay increases tied to certification and skill progression.
