Job Description

Peckham Industries is seeking a Yard Person/Plant Operator to support safe, efficient production of construction materials at our Northeast facility. In this hands-on role, you'll operate loaders and other equipment to move, load, and organize aggregates, asphalt, and related materials. Responsibilities include assisting with daily plant operations, basic equipment inspections, and maintaining a clean, safe yard. You'll work outdoors in all weather, follow strict safety procedures, and collaborate with a supportive, employee-owned team focused on quality, integrity, and community impact. Responsibilities Operate loaders, forklifts, and other yard/plant equipment to move and load materials safely Assist with daily plant operation, monitoring material flow and equipment performance Perform basic equipment inspections, cleaning, and routine maintenance tasks Maintain a clean, organized yard and safe traffic flow for trucks and equipment Follow all company and regulatory safety procedures, PPE requirements, and reporting protocols Support production, shipping, and receiving activities to meet project schedules Communicate with supervisors, drivers, and team members via radio and in person Complete basic paperwork or digital logs related to loads, inspections, and production Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal, stockpile management, and site housekeeping Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training to improve skills and knowledge Required Skills Heavy equipment operation (loader, forklift, skid steer) Basic mechanical and equipment inspection skills Plant or yard operations in aggregates/asphalt/concrete Safety procedures and PPE compliance Materials handling and stockpile management Basic recordkeeping and load documentation Communication via radio and in person Traffic and truck flow management on industrial sites Routine cleaning and preventive maintenance Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
