Job Summary:
Set up and operate hydraulic power press brake machines to bend, form, notch, punch or straighten sheet metal or steel plate products as specified by shop work orders, blueprints, drawings, templates, or layouts to customer specifications.
Essential Functions:
Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences. Set up, operate, or tend machines to bend, form, notch, punch, or straighten sheet metal or steel plate products. Remove completed materials or products from machine. Problem Sensitivity
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures. Examine completed work pieces for defects such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws. Adjust machine components to regulate speeds, pressures, and other actions, according to product specifications, and using gauges and hand tools. Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or work pieces, or adding coolant to machine reservoirs. Operate material handling equipment including, but not limited to, overhead cranes and hoists, forklifts and other appropriate material handling equipment and devices to place work pieces on or off the machine. Must be able to stand for an 8-10-hour shift. Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
Understanding the use of a tape measure. Quality Control Analysis
- Conducting tests and inspections of products and processes to evaluate quality or performance. Troubleshooting
- Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Operation and Control
- Controlling operations of equipment or systems. Mathematics
- Using mathematics to solve problems.
Reading Comprehension-Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Understanding the use of a vernier caliper is a plus.
