Job Title:
Press Brake Operator Job Description Join our team as a Press Brake Operator at a leading custom metal fabrication manufacturer in Charlotte. You will play a crucial role in producing high-profile industrial and commercial components using advanced hydraulic CNC press brake equipment. This position involves custom fabrication work, ensuring precision and quality across a variety of projects. Responsibilities Set up and operate hydraulic or CNC press brakes. Read blueprints and technical drawings to understand bend angles, dimensions, and part orientation. Select and install tooling (dies, punches) for each job. Program CNC controls or adjust machine parameters for accurate bends. Position and align metal inside the machine using gauges, backstops, or CNC X/Y axis controls. Inspect finished parts using calipers, protractors, templates, and other precision tools to ensure they meet specifications. Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain accuracy. Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments. Follow strict safety procedures to prevent injuries in a high-force, high-risk environment. Collaborate with internal teams, including tool & die, fabrication, and leadership. Support continuous improvement in a custom manufacturing environment. Essential Skills Experience with metal CNC press brakes, specifically stretch-out bending. Ability to code/program at the machine and make on-the-fly revisions directly at the press brake. Experience with 450-ton hydraulic CNC press brakes or similar heavy-tonnage equipment.Strong blueprint reading:
part numbers, bend sequences, tolerances, and orientation.Proficiency with precision measurement tools:
calipers, micrometers, protractors, angle gauges. Ability to perform first-piece inspection and validate accuracy before running production. Experience in 100% custom fabrication — dynamic work, not repetitive, requires problem-solving. Ability to set up additional lines for up to 2 other operators when needed. High mechanical aptitude and ability to think through bend sequences, tooling selection, and adjustments. Reliable work history with demonstrated tenure in metal fabrication environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Career of press brake experience preferred; strong mechanical aptitude required. Familiarity with custom fabrication workflows and one-off or low-volume production. Exposure to tool & die work is a plus. Ability to work independently and maintain high precision under minimal supervision. Why Work Here? The schedule is Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with up to 50 hours per week and occasional Friday shifts based on workload. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
