Job Summary This hands-on production role supports the start-up and ongoing operation of our label printing department by operating digital printing and narrow-web finishing equipment to produce high-quality pressure-sensitive labels and packaging for vitamin, supplement, and consumer health products. Working under the direction of the Digital Press Supervisor, the Digital Press & Label Finishing Operator is responsible for day-to-day equipment operation, job setup, print and finishing quality, inspection, routine troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, production documentation, and safe manufacturing practices. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in digital printing, label converting, or narrow-web finishing and is comfortable working in a growing operation where they will receive direction and technical support from the Digital Press Supervisor while becoming proficient in our equipment, processes, and quality standards.
Essential Functions:
Operate the HP Indigo 6K+ Digital Press to produce high-quality pressure-sensitive labels, packaging components, and related print materials for vitamin and supplement products. Operate and maintain the ABG Digicon 3 finishing line, including web handling, flexo stations, varnish/coating or spot-color applications, die-cutting, waste matrix removal, and slitting/rewinding. Set up HP Indigo and ABG Digicon 3 production jobs according to work orders, job tickets, approved artwork, substrate specifications, tooling requirements, color targets, inspection criteria, and finishing instructions. Follow production priorities and work direction established by the Digital Press Supervisor while meeting production, quality, waste, uptime, changeover, safety, and on-time completion expectations. Set up, adjust, clean, and maintain flexographic finishing components, including plates, anilox rolls, doctor blade/chamber systems, inks, coatings, varnishes, and UV/drying systems. Set up and monitor die-cutting operations, including tooling, registration, pressure, matrix stripping, web tension, rewind quality, and finished-roll presentation. Operate camera inspection systems to verify labels for print defects, copy accuracy, registration, missing labels, matrix issues, barcode/QR readability, and other customer or quality requirements. Perform daily start-up, shutdown, cleaning, lubrication, operator maintenance, and preventive maintenance on the HP Indigo 6K+ and ABG Digicon 3 in accordance with OEM guidance and site SOPs. Monitor print and finishing quality throughout production runs, including color, density, registration, coating quality, die-cut depth, edge quality, roll construction, splice handling, and inspection results. Use HP Indigo press controls and available color-management and production tools, including Spot Master, PrintOS, diagnostics, and related systems, as trained and required for assigned work. Monitor consumables and materials, including ElectroInks, blankets, PIPs, imaging oil, substrates, primers, flexo inks/coatings, anilox rolls, plates, dies, blades, cores, and finishing supplies; communicate replenishment needs to the Digital Press Supervisor. Work with prepress, quality, maintenance, and production planning teams as directed to support job readiness, resolve production issues, and support on-time completion. Accurately document production activity, spoilage, material usage, press and finishing maintenance, inspection results, quality checks, downtime, and corrective actions. Troubleshoot routine press, finishing, color, substrate, tooling, web-handling, inspection, and workflow issues; escalate more complex equipment, service, or quality concerns to the Digital Press Supervisor. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following company safety, quality, GMP, housekeeping, and controlled-production expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of digital printing, label converting, or narrow-web finishing processes. Working knowledge of digital press production, color management, substrate handling, job setup, quality control, inspection standards, and production documentation. Working knowledge of narrow-web finishing processes such as flexo coating/printing, UV curing or drying, die-cutting, matrix stripping, slitting, rewinding, roll quality, and camera inspection. Ability to operate production equipment independently after training and according to established procedures and Supervisor direction. Ability to read and follow job tickets, SOPs, production schedules, quality specifications, die/tooling instructions, inspection plans, and safety procedures. Comfortable using computer-based press, finishing, inspection, and production software interfaces, plus basic Microsoft Office or equivalent business tools. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine maintenance, recognize abnormal press or finishing conditions, make precise adjustments, and perform routine troubleshooting. Strong attention to detail, especially for color, copy, barcode/QR verification, lot/version control, registration, die-cut quality, roll integrity, label accuracy, and repeatability. Ability to follow direction, work independently on assigned production, communicate production concerns clearly, and collaborate effectively with the Digital Press Supervisor and other departments.
Education and Experience:
Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience operating digital printing, label converting, flexographic, or finishing equipment, preferably in pressure-sensitive labels, narrow-web printing/converting, packaging, or related label production. Experience with pressure-sensitive labels or narrow-web label printing/converting strongly preferred. Experience with HP Indigo, ABG Digicon, or comparable digital label printing/converting equipment strongly preferred; experience with HP Indigo 6K/6K+/WS6800/WS6900/8000 and/or ABG Digicon 2/3 is a plus. Experience performing equipment setup, quality checks, routine troubleshooting, adjustments, and preventive maintenance preferred. Experience with color management, registration, die-cutting, slitting/rewinding, inspection systems, or related label-production processes preferred. Experience in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, or another regulated manufacturing environment is a plus. OEM or manufacturer-specific training/certification is preferred but not required; equipment-specific training will be provided as appropriate.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
May require standing for extended periods, working near moving machinery, rotating shafts, web paths, dies, UV/drying systems, inspection equipment, and press/finishing consumables. Requires adherence to company safety, quality, cleanliness, documentation, lockout/tagout, PPE, GMP, and controlled-production procedures. Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. Visual acuity required for color evaluation, defect detection, registration checks, die-cut quality, barcode/QR inspection, and label quality review. Manual dexterity required for press adjustments, flexo setup, die/tooling adjustments, substrate and roll handling, maintenance tasks, and consumable changes. Ability to bend, reach, climb steps/platforms, and work around production and finishing equipment safely.
