Job Description

Job Title:
Assembly Technician / Upfit Technician Job Description This role focuses on upfitting, repairing, and customizing aerial, construction, and heavy- and light-duty trucks to meet specific customer requirements. You will build and modify vehicles using mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems while maintaining high quality standards, strong attention to detail, and a consistent attendance record. The position suits someone who enjoys hands-on work, can adapt to changing priorities, and is eager to learn new skills in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Create and maintain a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and best practices. Build and customize aerial, heavy-duty, and light-duty vehicles using a variety of parts and components to meet customer specifications. Install, wire, and troubleshoot electrical components on various vehicles. Plumb and route hydraulic systems on a wide range of vehicles. Read, interpret, and follow repair orders and work instructions accurately. Allocate and record time spent on each repair order correctly for tracking and billing purposes. Produce finished products that consistently meet or exceed established quality standards. Ensure timely turnaround of vehicles to meet schedules and customer expectations. Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts safely and efficiently. Use welding equipment, power tools, tape measures, and other hand tools to complete mechanical and electrical assemblies. Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams to guide assembly and installation work. Communicate effectively with multiple departments to coordinate work and resolve issues. Assess work processes and product performance and implement improvements where needed. Apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in daily tasks. Document work performed and maintain accurate records as required. Essential Skills Previous related experience in mechanical assembly, vehicle upfitting, or a similar field. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work on parts and assemblies. Experience with welding and mechanical assembly. Ability to perform wiring and basic electrical work on vehicles and equipment. Familiarity with electronics and electrical components. Proficiency using power tools, hand tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, repair orders, and work-related documents. Valid driver's license. High school diploma or equivalent. Ownership of a personal tool set suitable for mechanical and electrical assembly work. Extremely detail-oriented and accurate in performing tasks. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing work demands. Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and schedules. Self-sufficient, driven, and able to work with minimal supervision. Strong attendance record and reliability. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and audiogram. Proficiency with basic computer software, including MS Office Suite and internet-based tools for time tracking. Understanding of customer service principles, including needs assessment, quality standards, and customer satisfaction. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and professional attitude. Active listening skills and clear, appropriate communication. Ability to convey information effectively in both verbal and written forms. Ability to identify complex problems, analyze information, and implement effective solutions. Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills. Ability to assess performance and implement improvements. Ability to see at close range (with or without correction) to perform detailed work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of hydraulics and hydraulic systems. Experience working with heavy equipment, diesel trucks, and/or farm equipment. Experience operating overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts. Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in aerial and construction equipment. Understanding of quality standards and continuous improvement practices. Work Environment This role is based in a covered, swamp-cooled facility designed to keep the workspace comfortable throughout the year. The standard schedule is a first-shift assignment, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work in a hands-on shop environment using welding equipment, power tools, tape measures, and other mechanical and electrical tools, as well as operating overhead and jib cranes and forklifts. The work involves standing, moving around the shop, and working in and around vehicles and equipment for most of the shift. Safety practices and appropriate work attire are expected to ensure a safe and efficient operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Casa Grande, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
