The Night Shift Structural Steel Shop Foreman is responsible for supervising all fabrication activities during the night shift. This role ensures that structural steel components are fabricated safely, accurately, and on schedule while maintaining quality standards and productivity goals. The foreman leads shop personnel, enforces safety policies, coordinates workflow, and serves as the primary point of contact for night-shift operations. Key Responsibilities Supervision & Leadership Supervise, direct, and support night-shift fabrication crews (welders, fitters, machine operators, and helpers) Assign daily work tasks based on production schedules and shop priorities Lead shift start-up meetings and communicate production goals Monitor employee performance, attendance, and adherence to company policies Train and mentor employees on proper fabrication techniques and shop procedures Production & Quality Control Ensure fabrication work meets approved shop drawings, specifications, and AWS standards Review shop drawings and bills of material prior to fabrication Inspect welds, fit-ups, and finished assemblies for quality and accuracy Coordinate rework or corrections as needed Track productivity and report progress or delays to management Safety & Compliance Enforce all safety rules, PPE requirements, and OSHA regulations Conduct job hazard analyses and safety briefings Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and machinery Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions Equipment & Materials Oversee operation of shop equipment including CNC machines, beam lines, saws, drills, forklifts, and overhead cranes Ensure materials are staged, labeled, and available for production Coordinate with day shift and management regarding material shortages or equipment issues Communication & Reporting Serve as the primary night-shift liaison with management Communicate shift progress, manpower needs, and production issues Complete daily shift reports, time tracking, and production documentation Coordinate smooth hand-off to day shift Required Minimum 5+ years experience in structural steel fabrication Prior experience as a Shop Foreman, Lead Man, or Supervisor preferred Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings Working knowledge of welding processes and steel fabrication methods Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements Ability to lead crews of 10-25+ employees Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with noise, heat, and heavy equipment Must be able to wear required PPE at all times Compensation & Benefits (Customize as needed) Competitive hourly or salaried compensation Night shift differential (if applicable) Overtime opportunities Medical, dental, vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off and holidays Growth and advancement opportunities
