This is a hybrid manufacturing and field-support role. Based on production demand and business needs, the technician may be dispatched to customer sites to support new machine installations or provide break-fix service alongside qualified field service personnel. The role follows work instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements while helping the team achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Assemble fiber laser cutting machines and subassemblies using engineering drawings, schematics, process documentation, work instructions, and verbal direction. Receive, unload, unpack, verify, and stage materials required for machine assembly. Prepare the tools, fixtures, equipment, and documentation required for each assembly run. Perform in-process and final testing, laser commissioning, ball-bar testing, and accurate recording of test results as specified by work instructions and inspection test plans. Complete parts, subassembly, and production transactions in SAP and other applicable systems to accurately record material usage and completed assembly steps. Complete and maintain all required machine assembly documentation in electronic and/or hard-copy form. Follow all company, manufacturing, field-service, and customer-site safety requirements and immediately report unsafe conditions. Participate in projects, problem-solving activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. Complete assigned assembly and field-support work on schedule and in accordance with established quality standards. Build productive and collaborative working relationships with manufacturing, field service, installation teams, customers, and other internal stakeholders. Remain flexible and willing to cross-train on different functions, product families, installation activities, and service tasks. Travel to customer sites as assigned to support new machine installations, including assembly, alignment, testing, commissioning, and related installation activities within the technician's training and qualifications. Support break-fix service assignments by troubleshooting equipment, performing approved repairs, validating machine operation, and escalating technical or safety issues when additional expertise is required. Represent Bystronic professionally in all customer-facing interactions by communicating clearly, respecting customer property and site requirements, and providing timely status updates to the appropriate customer and Bystronic contacts. Complete required field-service reports, time and expense records, parts transactions, and other assignment documentation accurately and on time. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or relevant technical certification preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in a manufacturing assembly environment; machine-building, installation, or machine-service experience preferred. Ability to read, understand, and interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and blueprints. Ability to safely use hand and power tools, including wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, drills, and pneumatic tools. Ability to use fixtures, precision measuring devices, diagnostic equipment, and other applicable manufacturing or service aids. Basic computer skills and the ability to accurately enter information in SAP and other applicable systems. Working knowledge of basic technical terminology and the mechanical and electrical interaction of subsystems within a complete machine. Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally as business needs require, including overnight travel and assignments of varying duration. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, work effectively at customer sites, follow established escalation procedures, and represent Bystronic in a positive manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks. Good color acumen and color vision. Ability to stand, kneel, bend or reach frequently during the duration of the work shift. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
