Job Title:
Assembler / Polisher Job Description The Assembler / Polisher plays a key role in building and finishing thermoforming tooling and molds by performing precision assembly and high-quality polishing work. This position reads and interprets work orders and technical drawings, operates a variety of machining and hand tools, and ensures that all finished parts and molds meet strict dimensional and quality specifications. The role combines mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a strong focus on quality in a clean, modern manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Review work orders, drawings, specifications, and instructions to determine required materials, procedures, and sequence of operations for both assembly and polishing tasks. Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on metal stock to prepare materials for machining and assembly. Verify dimensions and assembly alignment throughout the process to ensure parts meet required tolerances. Operate mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, shapers, and other equipment to machine and prepare components for assembly. Fit and assemble finished parts, making minor modifications as needed to achieve optimal fit and function of all components. Confirm that all finished work conforms to specifications through careful inspection and use of precision measuring tools. Review work orders, drawings, and specifications to determine materials, procedures, and equipment needed for polishing operations. Set up and operate a hand drill to drill and tap holes in molds for venting and other functional requirements. Position parts and remove surface defects using palm sanders, sandpaper, files, steel wool, and other hand tools to achieve smooth and consistent finishes. Inspect finished molds for smoothness, contour, conformity, and defects, ensuring they meet quality and customer requirements. Verify that finished workpieces conform to dimensional and visual specifications before final approval. Preassemble and fit parts together to confirm accuracy of dimensions and proper alignment prior to final assembly. Handle and organize combination forms and salvage tooling, placing them in the appropriate customer bins for proper tracking and reuse. Follow established process control and inspection procedures to maintain consistent quality and performance. Support general production and assembly activities as needed to meet team and production goals. Essential Skills Basic computer skills to read work orders, access documentation, and record production or inspection data. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working with tools, machinery, or mechanical assemblies. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, technical schematics, and other engineering drawings. Solid reading and mathematical skills to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and measurements accurately. Ability to operate welding equipment safely and effectively as required for tooling or assembly tasks. Knowledge and experience using precision measuring and marking devices such as rulers, micrometers, calipers, and scribes. Experience with inspection practices to verify that parts and assemblies conform to specifications. Ability to set up and operate machines and tools used in the assembly and polishing processes. Capability to work with thermoforming or thermoform tooling and components, or willingness to learn these processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in assembly, general production, or manufacturing environments. Knowledge in polishing metal components or molds using hand tools and power tools. Familiarity with process control in a production setting. Comfort working with multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a production environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Willingness to cross-train and learn new skills across different thermoforming lines and processes. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a very clean manufacturing facility with 18 thermoforming lines split between the north and south sides of the plant, including a dedicated area focused on medical customers. The environment emphasizes precision, quality, and safety, with access to mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, shapers, hand drills, palm sanders, and a variety of hand and measuring tools. The role follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with incremental and Saturday overtime as necessary to meet production demands. The facility operates with structured processes, clear work instructions, and defined quality standards, providing a stable and organized setting for assembly and polishing work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntley, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
