2nd & 3rd Fort Wayne Metals operates 24 hours/day with various shifts, depending on the building. Additional shifts may open up. Overview Operate different welding, crimping, grinding, equipment in order to produce a variety of assembly products. Produce high quality products that meet the customers' requirements in accordance with Fort Wayne Metals mission and certifications. Education & Experience Requirements 1 year of manufacturing experience is required. Hands-on technical experience, including but not limited to mechanical, machine shop, fabrication, audio-visual, quality control/assurance, maintenance, inspection, or engineering experience may be considered in lieu of manufacturing. High school diploma or equivalency required.Job Responsibilities:
Assemble components by following detailed work instructions, blueprints, and procedures. Understanding of the welding process. Ability to set up and operate various types of welding equipment. The setup could include correcting gas levels, sharpening and positioning electrodes, etc. The ability to set up and operate different press and swaging equipment. Ability to identify conditions of dies and other equipment used. Deburr material with grinding wheel. Must be able to take apart and replace grinder wheels. Set up and operate a lathe machine. Replace cutting wheels when needed. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in order to efficiently produce new product samples. Understand the operating features of the equipment used in the department and be able to effectively make adjustments to operating parameters of that equipment. Visually inspect material coming off resources, acting as first line inspection, to ensure quality of product. Take action for material not meeting quality expectations, as necessary. Ability to understand the individual properties of the various alloys and materials used in the department and how they are affected by different factors. Use micrometers, calipers, tooling scopes, and other job specific measuring equipment to perform tolerance checks. Follow all procedures for traceability, line clearance, process control, safety, and housekeeping. Read and understand production order to identify work priority and requirements to correctly run jobs. Package completed jobs. Perform other duties as requested by management.Skills Needed:
Ability to perform basic computer functions. Possess intermediate math, reading, and writing skills. Mechanical aptitude, preferred. Strong attention to detail. Good hand dexterity. Understand and apply safe work practices. Blueprints preferred.Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Fast-paced production environment. Work hours consist of 40 hours per week. Overtime may sometimes be required. May work with and around hazardous chemicals. Appropriate PPE must be worn where posted and required. Exposure to fluctuating temperatures may occur. Average weights in production range from 10-25 lbs. Maximum weights may exceed 75-80 lbs. on occasion. May be required to perform work above shoulder height. Frequent bending, twisting, lifting and squatting.
