Mechanical Assembler Job Description Join a high-tech manufacturing team as a Mechanical Assembler responsible for building large, custom diesel and natural gas engines that power hospital backup generators, data centers, and heavy industrial equipment. In this role, you assemble complex engine systems using a wide range of hand and power tools, torque and pneumatic equipment, electrical testing tools, and lifting devices and cranes. You work from detailed blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions, using strong mechanical aptitude to interpret what each engine needs and complete precise, high-quality assemblies. This is a hands-on, technically demanding position suited for individuals who are mechanically inclined, comfortable with tools and computers, and interested in troubleshooting and repair—not a basic or repetitive assembly-line job. Responsibilities Assemble large diesel and natural gas engines according to blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications. Use a wide variety of mechanical tooling, including torque wrenches, DC (electrical) tooling, pneumatic air tools, and standard hand tools such as wrenches and sockets. Manipulate and position heavy engine components using lifting devices, hoists, and cranes while following strict safety procedures. Interpret and follow written work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work orders to complete custom sub-assemblies accurately. Review and follow CPU-based work instructions and engineering drawings, documenting work performed and progress in computer systems. Perform fastening, sealing, and hydraulic-related tasks in accordance with established quality and safety standards. Apply proper torque techniques and verify that assemblies meet specified torque requirements using torque equipment and related tools. Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and other technical documentation to determine correct assembly methods and specifications. Conduct basic electrical and mechanical checks on in-process engines and components using electrical testing equipment and wiring knowledge. Assist with troubleshooting and repair of in-process engines, identifying issues and taking corrective actions under guidance. Handle multiple sub-assemblies for custom engines, ensuring each one meets the unique blueprint and specification requirements for that order. Maintain strict adherence to safety practices, including consistent use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of tools and lifting devices. Monitor product quality throughout the assembly process, following established quality standards and processes to ensure high-quality output. Work collaboratively with another assembler on a two-person team within a designated zone, coordinating tasks and supporting teammates as needed. Contribute to a clean, organized, and debris-free work area by following housekeeping standards and promptly addressing any spills or hazards. Participate in training focused on safety, fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, torque equipment, and quality, and apply this knowledge on the job. Follow production schedules and meet time expectations for various assembly tasks, such as completing specific sub-assemblies within defined cycle times. Successfully complete written and hands-on assessments during the training period to demonstrate mechanical aptitude, tooling knowledge, and process understanding. Essential Skills Proven experience working in an industrial or hands-on environment using mechanical tools and equipment. Demonstrated experience with mechanical tooling, including torque equipment, DC tools, pneumatic tools, and standard hand tools. Mid-level or higher mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand how mechanical systems fit and function together; this is not an entry-level or basic power tools role. Experience following written work instructions, SOPs, blueprints, and similar technical documentation in a production or maintenance setting. Ability to use a computer (CPU skills) to review engineering drawings, digital work instructions, and processes, and to document work performed. Capability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions for mechanical assemblies. Ability to pass written and hands-on assessments during training, covering safety, tooling, torque, sealing, hydraulic equipment, and quality topics. Comfort working with hand and power tools such as torque wrenches, impact wrenches, ratchets, and basic measurement tools like tape measures. Strong focus on safety and quality, consistently following established standards, procedures, and PPE requirements. Willingness and ability to work in a manufacturing environment with large, heavy equipment and to use lifting devices and cranes safely. Steel-toed or composite-toe shoes required at the start of employment. No formal diploma required for consideration. Ability to achieve the required score threshold on the general labor assessment used in the selection process. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in mechanically focused industries such as automotive repair, diesel technician work, lube technician roles, tire shops, farming, construction, maintenance, or facilities. Background in mechanical assembly, automotive repair, industrial maintenance, or similar hands-on mechanical roles. Familiarity with diesel engines, engine components, or heavy equipment is highly beneficial. Experience with crane or hoist operation in a production or maintenance environment. Exposure to electrical schematics, wiring, or basic electrical troubleshooting in an industrial or light industrial setting. Experience in general production, general labor, or assembly production environments, particularly where torque tools and fastening standards are used. Comfort working in a light industrial or manufacturing setting with established quality and safety processes. Ability to describe and demonstrate past experience building or assembling products or equipment from scratch using tools. Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to mechanically troubleshoot issues in equipment or assemblies. Effective communication skills to explain processes, quality standards, and troubleshooting steps to supervisors, trainers, and team members. Why Work Here?
