Working under a microscope at a dedicated bench, this individual will perform the fine, precise assembly steps that turn delicate components into finished neural probes and related microdevices. Spike Neuro develops and manufactures electrophysiology and neurochemistry tools including neural probes, surface arrays, and data acquisition hardware, and actively pursues the development of new products in this space. This is a hands-on role built for someone with a steady hand, sharp eyes, and the patience to do meticulous work well and consistently. No prior experience is required; we will train the right person. Necessary skills include manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the drive to produce clean, reliable work. As part of the hiring process, candidates complete a short hands-on skills assessment. Major Responsibilities Assemble very small neural probes and related microdevices by hand while working under a stereo microscope Perform fine assembly operations such as component placement, alignment, bonding, and attachment to tight tolerances Solder and bond small, delicate components as required (training provided) Inspect completed work under magnification for defects, alignment, and quality, and perform rework as needed Follow detailed written assembly procedures and work instructions precisely and consistently Handle small, fragile, and often costly components with care to avoid damage and contamination Maintain a clean, organized, and static-safe (ESD) workstation Accurately record work performed, quantities, and results in production and quality records Communicate clearly with engineers and team members about progress, yields, and any issues observed Support continuous improvement by sharing observations that could improve assembly quality or efficiency Assist with related production and laboratory tasks as assigned Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED No prior experience required; training will be provided for the right candidate Excellent near-vision acuity (correctable) and the ability to perform detailed work under a microscope for extended periods Strong manual dexterity with steady, precise hand control Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to consistent, high-quality work Ability to remain focused at a bench workstation for extended periods Ability to carefully follow detailed written and verbal instructions Willingness and ability to pass a hands-on skills assessment as part of the hiring process Good reading, writing, and communication skills in the English language Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team Preferred Requirements Undergraduate degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related field Prior experience with soldering, particularly fine-pitch or small-component soldering Experience with wire bonding, die bonding, or other microbonding techniques Experience performing detailed work under a microscope (e.g., micro-assembly, electronics, watchmaking, jewelry, laboratory, or medical device work) Experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, or other controlled production environment Familiarity with ESD-safe handling practices Hobbies or activities that demonstrate fine motor skill and precision (e.g., model building, electronics, or detailed crafts) Interest in neuroscience, biomedical devices, or precision manufacturing Other Role Details On-site role.
