Job Title:
Fabrication Fitter - Level 2 Job Description This role offers the opportunity to work as a skilled fabricator in a growing production environment, contributing to projects from early build stages through final assembly. You will assemble components according to detailed drawings and specifications, inspect and correct defects, and support multiple phases of the build process. The position suits a motivated, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in quality workmanship and maintaining a safe, organized workspace. Responsibilities Assemble components accurately according to provided specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings. Measure, mark, and lay out parts to ensure precise fit and alignment before assembly. Verify dimensions and overall quality of completed assemblies, identifying and correcting any issues found. Build jigs, fixtures, and other fabrication aids as needed to support efficient and accurate production. Use fabrication tools and equipment such as grinders, band saws, drills, drill presses, torches, plasma cutters, magnetic drills, and other shop tools safely and effectively. Fit, clamp, and assemble components with precision to meet quality and performance requirements. Take projects from blueprint through to finished assembly with minimal supervision, ensuring all specifications are met. Notify the shop supervisor or appropriate personnel of any discrepancies or issues in drawings, specifications, or materials. Inspect and maintain tools and equipment, including grinders, torches, and hand tools, to ensure they remain in safe working condition. Unload, organize, and stage materials as needed to support fabrication and assembly activities. Prepare finished units for shipment, including final checks and basic finishing tasks as required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including cleaning and organizing the workspace between assignments. Follow all safety practices, procedures, and guidelines to maintain a safe, orderly work environment. Communicate clearly in English with team members to coordinate work and resolve issues. Essential Skills 3-4 years of experience in fabrication, fitting, or related mechanical assembly. Proven ability to measure, mark, and lay out parts accurately for fabrication and assembly. Capability to stand for long periods and safely lift up to 50 lbs. Skill in safely using common shop tools such as grinders, band saws, drills, drill presses, torches, plasma cutters, magnetic drills, and other fabrication equipment. Ability to fit, clamp, and assemble components with precision to meet tight tolerances. Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical drawings, symbols, and fabrication notes. Ability to take a project from blueprint to finished assembly with minimal supervision. Competence in MIG welding and general welding practices in a fabrication setting. Experience working with blueprints and applying them accurately to fabrication tasks. Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English in a shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Forklift experience is helpful but not required. Experience in mechanical assembly within a production or manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to troubleshoot fit-up or dimensional issues and adjust processes accordingly. Comfort working across multiple phases of the build process, from initial fabrication to final assembly. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a fabrication shop environment where you will work with a range of tools and equipment, including grinders, band saws, drills, drill presses, torches, plasma cutters, magnetic drills, and other fabrication machinery. The role requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs as part of daily tasks. You will work around active fabrication processes, including cutting, grinding, and welding, and you are expected to follow all safety procedures to maintain a safe and orderly workspace. The environment emphasizes cleanliness and organization, with an expectation that work areas are cleaned and reset between assignments. Dress will be typical for a fabrication shop, including appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment suitable for welding, cutting, and handling materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grandview, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
