Job Title:
Wire Winder Operator Job Description This role is responsible for operating wire wind machines and related production equipment to produce high-quality parts in a manufacturing environment. You will set up and run wire winders, handle raw materials, perform precise measurements, and document production results while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards. Responsibilities Set up and operate wire wind machines according to production specifications. Configure and adjust wire winders, including counters, traverse, and other settings, to achieve efficient bobbin footage and correct wire construction for braided hoses. Identify and select the correct raw materials, including understanding color coding and raw material numbers. Operate wire strippers, crimpers, and all wire winder equipment safely and efficiently. Use power drills or similar power tools to wrap and wind wires as required by the production process. Identify and eliminate known defects during the winding and assembly process to maintain product quality. Document both conforming and non-conforming product accurately and completely. Correctly complete all required paperwork and production records on a daily basis in accordance with company and ISO standards. Pull catenaries and perform other related tasks needed to support the winding and braiding process. Detect and report problem areas, unusual conditions, or equipment issues to the appropriate team lead or supervisor. Train new employees on wire winding processes, equipment operation, and quality expectations as needed. Operate press machines to create parts using molds, following established procedures. Clean and prime parts with appropriate chemicals and solutions, ensuring correct application and handling. Measure stock to confirm correct thickness and length before and during production. Place a variety of materials by hand into molds, on mandrels, or in build fixtures according to work instructions. Weigh stock and scrap materials and record scrap to be salvaged. Monitor individual production output to detect bad parts early and prevent defects from progressing through the process. Use production equipment and tools, such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, scales, and other measuring devices, on a regular basis. Ensure that all materials handling and production recordkeeping is completed accurately and in line with company and ISO requirements. Follow internal safety policies and procedures at all times while operating machinery and handling chemicals. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, including setup and cleanup at the start and end of each shift. Perform other related duties as assigned by leads, planners, supervisors, or managers to support overall production needs. Essential Skills Demonstrated ability to set up and operate wire wind machines and related winding equipment. Ability to configure wire winders, including setting counters for efficient bobbin footage and adjusting traverse. Knowledge of correct wire construction for hoses being braided. Ability to identify raw materials, including familiarity with raw material numbers and color coding for identification. Proficiency in operating wire strippers and crimpers. Experience using power drills or similar power tools for wrapping and winding wires. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on production experience. Ability to identify and eliminate known defects during production. Capability to correctly document good and non-conforming product and complete required paperwork daily. Skill in using hand tools and measuring equipment, including calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, and scales. Ability to read and work from blueprints or similar technical documents. High level of attention to detail and hand dexterity for very detailed work. Ability to operate press machines and work with molds, mandrels, and build fixtures. Commitment to following safety policies and procedures and maintaining a safe work area. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a wire-wound or similar manufacturing role. Combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of specific formal education requirements. Experience with mechanical assembly using hand tools and power tools. Comfort working with chemicals and solutions for cleaning and priming parts, following proper handling procedures. Familiarity with ISO or similar quality and documentation standards. Ability to train new employees on processes and equipment. Strong problem-solving skills to detect and report unusual conditions or equipment issues promptly. Why Work Here? You must be able to work under variable environmental conditions, including temperature changes and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, vapors, and exposure to solvents and other industrial chemicals. The work area requires regular setup and cleanup at the start and end of each shift to maintain a safe, organized, and clutter-free workspace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Mcminnville, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.30 - $23.10/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
