Job Title:
Cable and Wiring Harness Assembler Job Description This role is responsible for accurately assembling wiring harnesses and cables in accordance with detailed Assembly Process Instructions (APIs). You will perform a full range of assembly tasks, including wire preparation, crimping, soldering, and connector assembly, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and organization in a small electronics manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Produce cables and wire harnesses by cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering wires according to Assembly Process Instructions (APIs). Perform a full range of assembly tasks while strictly following all documented Assembly Process Instructions (APIs). Operate and maintain hand tools, crimp tools, pneumatic tools, and assembly-line equipment used in cable and harness assembly. Fabricate and prepare wires and cables for assembly, ensuring correct lengths, terminations, and labeling. Strip and crimp wires using hand tools and pneumatic tools to meet specified standards. Tin wires using a solder pot to prepare them for soldering and termination. Perform precise soldering of wire-to-wire and wire-to-terminal connections, including work on circuit boards and PCB assemblies when required. Insert terminated or crimped wires into connectors and housings according to specifications. Route and secure wires on harness boards following drawings, layouts, and other specifications. Handle, label, and organize all wires, connectors, and cables for assembled units to maintain traceability and order. Assist in PCB assembly and PCB manufacturing-related tasks as needed, ensuring proper electrical connections and component placement. Follow electrical and circuit-related requirements to ensure proper function of cable assemblies and power distribution builds. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area in compliance with workplace safety standards and procedures. Identify and report quality, process, equipment, or material issues to the appropriate leadership for corrective or preventive action. Support continuous improvement by following established corrective and preventive action processes when quality issues arise. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of production schedules and customer requirements. Essential Skills Ability to accurately assemble wiring harnesses and cables in accordance with Assembly Process Instructions (APIs). Proficiency in basic wire preparation tasks, including cutting, stripping, crimping, and tinning wires. Ability to perform precise soldering of wire-to-wire and wire-to-terminal connections, including work related to circuit boards and PCB assemblies. Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, crimp tools, pneumatic tools, and assembly-line equipment. Capability to route wires on harness boards and insert terminated or crimped wires into connectors according to specifications. Strong attention to detail to handle, label, and organize wires, connectors, and cables accurately. Ability to read and follow written instructions in English. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Ability to work under a microscope for up to 8 hours to complete fine, detailed assembly work. Commitment to following workplace safety standards and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment is preferred but not required. Prior experience with cable assembly, wiring assembly, PCB assembly, or PCB manufacturing is preferred. Familiarity with electrical circuits, circuit boards, and power distribution assemblies is beneficial. Experience with corrective and preventive action processes related to quality issues is a plus. IPC Certification is preferred but not required. Ability to work with low-volume, custom builds and adapt to varied product configurations. Comfort working on products that support markets such as medical, military, and semiconductor industries. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a small manufacturing facility with approximately 80 employees, operating on a single shift. The workday starts between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM and concludes after an 8-hour shift, with overtime typically available on Saturday mornings. The facility functions as an electronics contract manufacturing environment specializing in cable assemblies, wiring assemblies, PCB assemblies, and box and power distribution builds, supporting markets such as medical, military, semiconductor, and defense. You will work with hand tools, crimp tools, pneumatic tools, soldering equipment, solder pots, microscopes, and assembly-line equipment while assembling and inspecting cables, harnesses, and PCB-related products. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety standards, with work often performed at a bench and under a microscope for extended periods to complete detailed, fine-pitch tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cranston, RI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
