Assembly Technician Job Description The Assembly Technician performs mechanical and light electro-mechanical assembly of extrusion frames and related components in a manufacturing environment. This role follows detailed work instructions to complete repetitive assembly operations, uses a variety of hand and power tools, and conducts in-process checks to ensure products meet quality and time standards. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read prints and take accurate measurements, and a willingness to support cross-functional tasks to improve efficiency. Responsibilities Perform mechanical assembly of extrusion frames and related subassemblies according to work instructions and engineering drawings. Carry out minimal electro-mechanical assembly using proper grounding techniques and safe work practices. Follow standardized work instructions to perform repetitive assembly operations with consistency and accuracy. Produce high-quality work that meets specified time standards and production targets. Execute in-process checks using visual inspection and checklists to verify quality and identify defects. Utilize a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, hex keys, drills, saws, tape measures, and fixtures to complete assembly tasks. Operate power tools safely and effectively for drilling, tapping, deburring, cutting, and related operations as required. Coordinate with teammates to manually integrate large subassemblies into completed final assemblies. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and work instructions to perform assembly and troubleshooting. Measure and verify parts and assemblies using appropriate measuring tools to ensure they meet specifications. Apply basic troubleshooting skills to identify and correct mechanical or electro-mechanical issues during assembly. Perform basic wiring, soldering, and electro-mechanical connections as needed for assemblies. Handle and assemble components that may be related to medical devices or precision assemblies, using microscopes or other inspection tools when required. Maintain a clean and organized work area, supporting clean manufacturing and, where applicable, cleanroom practices. Participate in cross-functional training to reduce takt time and increase flexibility within the production team. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to lockout/tagout and other safety certifications as required. Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements and assisting with implementation. Lift and move materials and assemblies up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods during the shift. Work overtime as needed to meet production schedules and customer demands. Essential Skills Ability to perform mechanical assembly using hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, hex keys, drills, saws, tape measures, and fixtures. Ability to read and interpret prints, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Proficiency in reading and taking accurate measurements using appropriate measuring tools. Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical and electro-mechanical components. Capability to execute visual inspections and complete in-process checklists to verify quality. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for periods of time in a manufacturing environment. Willingness to work overtime as needed to support production demands. Basic understanding of electro-mechanical assembly and proper grounding techniques. Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely in a production setting. Comfort working in a production or manufacturing environment with machinery and safety requirements. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written work instructions and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Manufacturing experience is desired but not required. Experience with troubleshooting mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies. Familiarity with cleanroom practices or working in controlled environments. Experience with medical device or precision assembly, including use of microscopes for inspection. Exposure to medical assembly, medical devices, or similar regulated products. Experience with soldering and wiring in an assembly environment. Ability to read and work from electrical schematics. Comfort using production documentation such as drawings, work orders, and checklists. Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and fork truck operation; certifications may be required based on function. Experience in environments involving photonics, controls, or similar technical products is considered ideal. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing environment with standard plant conditions and active machinery. The position offers a first shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second shift schedule from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a shift differential for second shift. Work involves frequent standing, lifting up to 30 lbs, and performing manual assembly tasks. Team members use a variety of hand and power tools and may work with drilling, tapping, deburring, cutting, testing, lifting, and moving operations. Safety is a core focus, and employees use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and hardhats as required. Loose-fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted around machinery, and appropriate footwear is required throughout the manufacturing plant. Additional certifications such as lockout/tagout and fork truck certification may be required based on job function. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woonsocket, RI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr.
