Plant Manager Job Description The Plant Manager leads all plant operations and holds full responsibility for safety, product quality, employee engagement, production efficiency, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and customer satisfaction. This role drives operational excellence through strong leadership, structured problem solving, and continuous improvement, while ensuring the plant meets performance, cost, and service objectives. Responsibilities Direct and manage all plant operations with a strong focus on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, total cost per unit, and continuous improvement. Ensure strict adherence to all company policies, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental procedures. Lead, influence, and motivate all stakeholders to create a culture of accountability, respect, and excellence in quality, safety, and operational performance. Develop, implement, and monitor targeted performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) in collaboration with departmental leaders to ensure objectives are delivered on time and within budget. Develop and execute capital planning strategies, including preparation, justification, and delivery of capital projects with clearly defined returns on investment at the time of project approval. Establish, promote, and sustain a culture of structured problem solving and root cause analysis, ensuring irreversible corrective actions and effective systems, capabilities, and training are in place to achieve key business objectives. Implement, maintain, and continuously improve predictive and preventative maintenance programs and quality management systems (QMS). Incorporate and sustain a strong culture of 5S, standard work, and visual management on the plant floor to support operational discipline and efficiency. Provide mentoring, coaching, and development to direct reports, building strong leadership capability at all levels within the plant. Drive continuous improvement initiatives with a strong focus on shop floor process excellence, OEE optimization, material utilization, and labor efficiency. Review, analyze, and interpret plant profit and loss (P&L) reports to guide decision-making and improve financial performance. Prioritize and manage multiple work assignments while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and service. Effectively manage and engage employees at various levels across the plant, fostering collaboration and high performance. Leverage Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to improve process reliability, reduce waste, and enhance overall plant performance. Use Microsoft Office and G Suite tools to analyze data, prepare reports, and communicate performance metrics and improvement plans to stakeholders. Support broader operational goals, including safety, quality, service, cost performance, and sustainability, and contribute to the success of future plant expansions. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline. Approximately 10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, including 4-5 years in leadership or management roles. Proven ability to review, analyze, and interpret profit and loss (P&L) reports to drive operational and financial decisions. Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and process improvement within a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Experience with Standard Work and 5S implementation and sustainment. Familiarity with Reliability Centered Maintenance practices. Experience working with Quality Management Systems (QMS). Hands-on experience with OEE optimization, root cause analysis, and 8D problem-solving methodologies. Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence, motivate, and develop teams at various levels. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work assignments in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with broader business objectives. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G Suite for data analysis, reporting, and communication. Experience mentoring and developing direct reports and building strong leadership pipelines. Comfort working in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations, including start-up and ramp-up environments. Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey expectations, performance results, and improvement plans clearly across all levels of the organization. Interest in supporting innovative, higher-performance, and more sustainable products, such as advanced roofing materials. Willingness to relocate in the future for potential opportunities to lead new plant sites, when available. Work Environment The plant operates as a national manufacturing facility producing fiberglass mat materials for shingle manufacturing, supporting broader East Coast operations. The site employs approximately 50-60 people and runs a Monday through Friday schedule with a 7:00 a.m. start time and an 8-hour shift, with occasional weekend work as needed to meet production and customer requirements. The environment includes office, manufacturing, and warehouse areas. The role requires regular presence on the plant floor, where conditions are not temperature regulated; it can become hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Employees, including the Plant Manager when on the floor, must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator, steel-toed boots, hard hat, ear protection, and eye protection. The company covers the cost of safety shoes and prescription safety glasses. Facial hair that interferes with respirator sealing is not permitted, and employees must wear clothing made of natural fibers. The plant environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, hot and cold temperatures, and occasionally to high or elevated areas, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and the risk of electrical shock and vibration. Roles at the site may require standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and the ability to lift and move heavy objects. Certain positions may also require color differentiation, distance vision, and depth perception.
