Assistant Asphalt Plant Manager Department:
Operations Reports To:
Asphalt Plant Manager Position Summary The Assistant Asphalt Plant Manager serves as the second-in-command of the asphalt plant and plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable plant operations. This position works alongside the Plant Manager to oversee daily production, preventive maintenance, quality control, inventory management, environmental compliance, and overall plant performance. The Assistant Plant Manager is expected to understand every aspect of plant operations and be fully capable of operating and managing the facility whenever the Plant Manager is unavailable. This role is designed for a motivated individual who is eager to grow into a future Plant Manager position. Primary Responsibilities Daily Operations
  • Assist the Plant Manager with all daily production activities.
  • Operate the asphalt plant as needed.
  • Coordinate production schedules with dispatch and paving crews.
  • Ensure asphalt is produced safely, efficiently, and to specification.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions. Leadership
  • Serve as the acting Plant Manager whenever necessary.
  • Assist with supervising plant personnel.
  • Help train and mentor plant operators and laborers.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Maintain clear communication with mechanics, truck drivers, quality control personnel, and management. Preventive Maintenance
  • Perform daily equipment inspections.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance activities.
  • Identify equipment issues before failures occur.
  • Assist mechanics during repairs.
  • Maintain maintenance records and equipment logs. Quality Control
  • Monitor mix temperatures, aggregate moisture, asphalt content, and production consistency.
  • Work closely with the Quality Control Technician to ensure all mixes meet company and DOT specifications.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mix-related issues. Inventory Management Monitor inventory levels of:
  • Aggregates
  • RAP
  • Liquid asphalt
  • Fuel
  • Additives
  • Plant wear parts
  • Lubricants Notify the Plant Manager before shortages impact production. Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Enforce company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections.
  • Assist with OSHA and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the plant. Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency.
  • Reduce downtime and unnecessary costs.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements.
  • Assist in implementing best practices across plant operations. QualificationsRequired
  • 3-5 years of asphalt plant or aggregate production experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to troubleshoot plant equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends during paving season. Preferred
  • Experience operating Astec, Gencor, ADM, Dillman, or similar asphalt plants.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Knowledge of NC DOT asphalt specifications. Success in This Role A successful Assistant Asphalt Plant Manager is someone who:

Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour
