About Sigmatex:
Sigmatex are a leader in the design, development and manufacturer of carbon fibre textiles. Our products go into a diverse range of applications from commercial aerospace, military aircraft, rockets, automobiles to high-end sports products. Our business was established in the UK (head office) in 1986 and we now have three manufacturing bases covering Europe, US and Asia. Sigmatex has been present in the US market since 1998. After a restructuring exercise in 2021 we consolidated our US manufacturing into a single site based in Orangeburg county, SC. Over the last three years we have grown from revenues of c.$10m to $30m, and within the next 5 years we are aiming to grow to over $50m. To support this growth and to address some of our current weaknesses, we are looking to widen our leadership and management team. This role will be pivotal to our progression and the successful person can look forward to an exciting and challenging career at Sigmatex.
Summary of role:
We are looking to recruit an experienced Production Manager who will take full responsibility for all day-to-day aspects of our manufacturing operations. This will cover all processes and direct personnel. As a relatively young but fast growing site, we need an assertive and driven production leader who has the tenacity and interpersonal skills to drive standardization across our production departments, will be effective in improving quality standards and increase productivity levels. You will operate as part of the site leadership team, reporting to the Plant Manager and with a dotted line to the CEO.
Full description of the role:
As leader of our production and supporting functions, you will have full responsibility for all manufacturing activities. The primary requirements of the role will include:
  • Ensure safe working practices through the plant by adhering to safety policy requirements, pro-active safety management, applying risk reduction actions and taking a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe behaviors.
  • Setting clear expectations for product quality by implementing robust training and assessment methods, developing standardized work practices, embracing continuous improvement initiatives and using data to drive process capability.
  • Developing labor utilization plans to achieve targeted cost of production goals.
  • Driving down the cost of poor quality (COPQ) through process improvements and training/development of personnel
  • Owning the weekly production plan and working to deliver On Time In Full (OTIF) levels at >95%
  • Achieve weekly Output targets across each production cell
  • Manage the production supervisors and team leaders to support the delivery of area objectives
  • Implement strong people management actions to achieve a reliable and competent team, taking action where under-performance is observed
  • Champion Operational Excellence within the manufacturing areas and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Understanding of digital systems to support manufacturing such as ERP, OEE and data capture technology
  • Support the development and implementation of business strategy and organizational maturity
  • Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and an ability to work with a minimal level of supervision.
  • Be assertive and able to manage people to achieve high standards
  • Good problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel within the US and occasionally internationally
  • Confident in front of customers and interacting with suppliers and equipment/service providers
  • Understanding of people management techniques
  • Any other duties as required by the Company.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in a technical field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Production Management
  • Strong IT skills including use of MS Office
  • Understanding of LEAN/CI principles
