SUMMARY This position will be responsible for managing all activities related to the daily operation of a specific manufacturing operations department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing safety, quality, personnel, assets, inventory, scheduling, KPIs and production of all products originating in that department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Safety/Housekeeping Establish a strong 5s culture through initiating activities and sustaining programs Identify areas needing 5s, implement 5s action plan
  • Establish 5s responsibility matrix ensuring all employees understand and perform to expectations
  • Provide 5s training opportunities for all individuals
  • Enforce adherence to and drive continuous improvement in all matters of safety
  • Identify areas where safety corrective actions are needed and drive implementation
  • Identify 5s and safety KPIs, report to upper magement team on a weekly and monthly basis

Ensure the department is "tour and audit" ready at all times Production Communicate clear expectations and KPIs for department and establish action plans for each position to ensure all requirements are met. Present KPIs to management on weekly and monthly basis Schedule all personnel and assets to meet production requirements according to Lean best practices Manage resources to limit and minimize inefficiencies and unnecessary overtime and cost overruns

Set path to success to meet operational effectiveness goals of 85% or greater

Drive positive employee engagement by establishing a strong bond and dedication between management and union hourly workforce through communication, goal setting, feedback and recognition

Responsible for coaching and developing leadership team to ensure all team members have necessary technical and leadership training to accomplish and exceed goals

Strictly adhere to production processes set by engineering and quality team. Include engineering and relevant personnel when deviation from standard is required

Follow all processes related to quality certifications (ISO, TS)

Ensure effective production teams are established across all three shifts. Each shift is required to meet all standard work requirements and production/quality levels

Maintain ownership of machines - both maintenance and cleanliness to ensure long life and operational effectiveness. PMs and proper upkeep/operation/safety are responsibility of operations manager and not maintenance department

Cross training matrices must be established and training plans implemented to ensure flexibility within department workforce

Production Manager will be responsible for dealing with the uncertainty of day-to-day management of personnel and equipment. Schedules and employees will have to be managed and redirected to ensure goals and objectives are met under dynamic work situations

Problem solving tools will need to be utilized to troubleshoot challenging situations that arise from a complex working environment

Positive communication and attitudes are vital for success. Providing employees with feedback and direction will be required to achieve goals. If there are questions or doubts about direction or methodologies set by management it is vital to address these with upper management to avoid a negative working environment. Quality Adhere to all production processes as defined in work instructions. Do not deviate from established production process unless written authorization is obtained from proper personnel

Expand and improve on documentation and training to ensure employees fully understand objectives and have the skillset to meet quality and production requirements

Be prepared to participate in customer and quality audits where required

Establish a quality-first culture. Manufacturing of non-conforming goods cannot be accepted

Ensure all tools have the necessary preventative maintenance to avoid quality issues and maximize uptime Customer Satisfaction This position will be participating in customer and quality tours where needed Hourly workforce will be required participate in tours and explain their duties as it relates to producing quality product for our customers

Manager will be responsible for maintaining a customer scorecard to track performance and delivery for product within their processes Cost Reduction Implementing Lean tools such as Kaizen and 5s activities will be required to meet cost reduction goals

All processes must continually reviewed to ensure the most efficient methodologies are utilized

Lean and continuous improvement training must be provided to all employees to drive CI initiatives as cost savings measures are often identified by the hourly workforce

Managers must be responsible for identifying and implementing cost savings projects throughout the year

Cost reduction KPIs must be implemented and tracked. Presentations to management on cost reduction results will be required monthly

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage employees and supervisors over 3 shifts, including selection, discipline, and termination decisions according to legal and union contract requirements. Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 5 years supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment Experience leading Kaizen and 5s implementations

Previous responsibility for identifying and maintaining Key Performance Indicators

Familiarity with adhering and maintaining quality systems (TS experience preferred)

Production Manager will be required to utilize Microsoft office products as well as other Strattec-specific software programs
