Position Details Field Detail Title Production Supervisor Company De Silva Brothers & Company Location Pico Rivera, CA Department Production Reports to Production Manager Direct reports None routinely; directs line leads and associates when covering for the Production Manager Shift Primarily day shift; covers 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift (8 hours) when filling in for the Production Manager FLSA status Exempt, full time Position Summary The Production Supervisor owns production documentation for De Silva Brothers and serves as the Production Manager's backup. The majority of the role (roughly 70%) is making sure every production record is complete, accurate, reviewed, and audit-ready, and that every run has the materials it needs, so the floor team can focus on running lines. When the Production Manager is out or needs support, the supervisor steps in to lead the floor, carry out the production schedule, and make shift-level decisions. This makes the role both the system behind production records and the second in command for production. Key Responsibilities Documentation and records (primary focus) Own the production documentation system: batch records, production logs, line clearance and allergen changeover forms, downtime logs, and shift reports. Review every shift's records each morning, chase missing or incorrect entries with shift supervisors, and close gaps within 24 hours. Train shift supervisors, line leads, and associates on correct record keeping and hold them accountable for completing records in real time. Keep production forms current and controlled, working with QA on revisions and document control. Maintain production records so they are organized and retrievable for SQF, customer, and regulatory audits. Track and report daily output, labor, scrap, and downtime to the Production Manager. Write and update production SOPs and work instructions with input from the floor. Backup to the Production Manager Step in as acting Production Manager during absences, vacations, or when called on, with authority to direct the floor team. Lead start-of-shift meetings covering safety, quality, the plan, and open issues when covering. Manage attendance, breaks, and labor hours, and approve overtime within set limits while covering. Escalate performance and conduct issues to the Production Manager and partner with HR as needed. Production execution Execute the production schedule set by the production scheduler (Liz Leal), and flag conflicts, shortages, or delays to her and the Production Manager. Verify formulas, ingredients, lot codes, packaging, and labels are correct and recorded before each run. Monitor line performance (output, yield, scrap, downtime) and flag trends to the Production Manager. Verify materials are staged at the line before each run, working with the warehouse to close any gaps. Inventory and supply chain coordination Partner closely with supply chain to make sure ingredients, packaging, and labels are on hand for every scheduled run. Review the upcoming production schedule against inventory at least weekly with supply chain and the scheduler, and flag shortages early enough to reorder or resequence. Track material usage, yield variances, and lot consumption so inventory records match what was actually used. Report production delays or stoppages caused by missing materials, with root cause, to the Production Manager and supply chain. Food safety and quality Enforce GMPs, allergen controls, and foreign material controls on every line. Complete line clearance and allergen changeover checks and get QA release before restarting. Place product on hold and notify QA immediately when a deviation or nonconformance occurs. Support SQF, customer, and regulatory audits, and close assigned corrective actions on time. Safety Enforce safety rules, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures. Investigate and report injuries and near misses, and follow through on corrective actions. Shift handoff and coordination Collect and review written handoff reports from each shift supervisor and follow up on open issues. Coordinate with Sanitation on cleaning windows and with Maintenance on repairs and preventive maintenance. Continuous improvement Identify recurring losses and recommend fixes to the Production Manager. Support 5S, standard work, and SOP updates for the lines. Qualifications Required 3+ years in food or beverage manufacturing, including 1 to 2 years leading a team or shift. Working knowledge of GMPs, allergen control, and food safety requirements. Strong attention to detail, with proven experience maintaining production or quality records in a regulated facility. Strong Excel skills and comfort with production reports, ERP or production software, and digital forms. Able to cover any shift, plus weekends and overtime as needed. Bilingual English and Spanish. Preferred Experience in a contract manufacturing or co-packing environment with frequent changeovers. Experience in an SQF or other GFSI certified facility. HACCP or PCQI certification, or willingness to obtain it. Exposure to lean tools such as 5S, standard work, or root cause analysis. Associate's or bachelor's degree in food science, operations, or a related field. Key Performance Measures Area Measure Documentation Production records complete, reviewed, and filed within 24 hours (target: 100%) Material availability Runs delayed or stopped for missing materials (target: zero) Output Schedule attainment (planned vs. actual units) Efficiency Units per labor hour, changeover time Yield Scrap and rework rate Quality Holds, deviations, and customer complaints Safety Recordable injuries and near miss reporting People Training records current for all production associates Physical Requirements and Work Environment Stand and walk on the production floor for extended periods. Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally; bend, reach, and climb as needed. Work around operating machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
