  • Full-time About the Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Quality Control (QC) Manager to oversee quality operations across both shop and field activities in our steel fabrication projects.
This role ensures that fabricated components, welds, and assemblies meet all customer specifications, project drawings, and industry standards. You will work closely with the Shop Manager and Field Superintendents to identify issues, enforce quality requirements, and drive continuous improvement from fabrication through final installation.
Responsibilities :
Shop Responsibilities Oversee daily quality checks on fabricated parts and assemblies. Perform inspections on welds, layouts, dimensions, and finishes against shop drawings and specifications. Verify welding procedures (WPS), welder qualifications, and compliance with AWS, AISC, and customer standards. Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT), including Visual Testing (VT). Review and maintain fabrication records, and project documentation. Investigate nonconformities and recommend corrective actions to minimize rework. Support customer and third-party inspections/audits in the shop. Field Responsibilities Conduct pre-installation checks to ensure dimensions and site conditions align with project requirements for efficient installation. Inspect erected steel structures to verify compliance with engineering drawings and specifications. Monitor bolted and welded connections during installation to ensure adherence to quality standards. Verify field welding activities, including WPS compliance and welder qualifications. Coordinate with field supervisors, erection crews, and project managers to resolve quality-related issues promptly. Document and report field inspection results, ensuring proper traceability and project recordkeeping. Support client and third-party inspections on-site to ensure transparency and compliance. Assist in resolving field nonconformities and recommend corrective actions to maintain project schedules and quality standards. Qualifications 3-5+ years of quality control experience in steel fabrication or structural steel. Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) and fabrication/erection practices. Familiarity with AWS D1.1, AISC, and
ISO 9001
standards. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, erection drawings, and weld symbols. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coach and collaborate with shop and field crews. Experience with project management and construction software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk). Preferred Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent. NDT certifications. Field erection and installation experience. Lean/continuous improvement experience in fabrication and field operations.
