Manufacturing The Opportunity We are conducting a confidential search for an established manufacturer seeking a Production Manager to lead day-to-day manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on floor leadership position responsible for production performance, scheduling, people leadership, safety, quality, delivery, and continuous improvement. The Production Manager will lead the hourly manufacturing team while working closely with Engineering, Quality, and senior leadership to ensure production priorities and customer commitments are met. Key Responsibilities Lead and direct daily manufacturing activities Establish daily and weekly production schedules and priorities Coordinate manpower, equipment, and resources to meet customer requirements Monitor production performance against safety, quality, delivery, and cost expectations Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor Work alongside production employees when necessary to maintain workflow or troubleshoot problems Identify and resolve production bottlenecks and operational issues Drive continuous improvement, 5S, waste reduction, and throughput improvements Monitor equipment performance and production efficiency Coordinate closely with Engineering, Quality, and other departments Communicate production status, scheduling issues, and potential delays Hire, train, coach, and develop production employees Conduct performance reviews and provide real-time feedback Manage attendance, overtime, PTO, and staffing requirements Handle employee relations, coaching, corrective action, and performance issues Develop cross-training and improve workforce flexibility Maintain a safe, organized, and productive manufacturing environment The original position also carries direct customer-facing responsibility for production and shipment scheduling updates, so I would keep that in the interview process even if we don't emphasize it heavily in the advertisement. Qualifications Previous production leadership experience in a manufacturing environment 2-3+ years of supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred Hands-on experience in thermal spray, coatings, surface finishing, or a related manufacturing process Demonstrated ability to lead while remaining hands-on with production Production planning and scheduling experience Strong people-management and employee-development skills Experience driving safety, quality, delivery, and productivity improvements Continuous improvement / 5S experience Strong problem-solving skills ERP/MRP experience preferred Strong communication and organizational skills High school diploma or GED required Ability to qualify for applicable U.S. export-control requirements The source role requires candidates to qualify as a U.S. Person or obtain the required authorization because the position involves access to EAR/ITAR-controlled technology and technical data.
