Job Description

2nd Shift Production Supervisor
FUNCTION
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of manufacturing or production lines, ensuring that products are made efficiently, on time, and meet quality standards. The role typically involves managing a team of production workers, providing direction and discipline, coordinating with different departments, and ensuring safety and productivity goals are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
Production Support:
Oversee and coordinate the daily activities on the production floor to ensure efficient workflow. Monitor the production process and adjust schedules as needed to meet deadlines. Ensure that production targets and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are met. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing engineering, hourly employees, union reps, maintenance, quality, material flow, production planning, design engineering, and supply chain, to achieve manufacturing goals. Day-to-day activities in support of the attainment of safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency objectives.
Safety:
Ensure that manufacturing processes and people comply with safety regulations and standards. Workplace organization and cleanliness (e.g., 5S methodology). Implement, train, and ensure that safety and ergonomic protocols are followed to minimize workplace hazards. Conduct regular safety checks to minimize accidents and injuries. Address any safety concerns and take corrective action to maintain a safe work environment. Responsible for prevention and loss or damage of plant inventory and company property.
Quality:
Collaborate with quality engineers to ensure processes and product meet quality standards, address defects or process deviations. Cross training of operators and scrap reduction. Conduct regular quality checks and audits to identify issues and take corrective actions.
Delivery:
Comply with planning schedules to ensure efficient production. Elimination of roadblocks and on time delivery of areas of responsibility. Monitor the use of raw materials, tools, people, and equipment to ensure they are available for production. Collaborate with the supply chain or purchasing departments to maintain inventory levels. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and request repairs or replacements when necessary.
Efficiency:
Monitor and control production expenses including labor costs (e.g., Staffing and over time), material usage, and overhead to ensure profitability and stay within budget. Identify areas for improvement in production processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs. Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques to streamline operations. Suggest and lead projects to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
Team Leadership:
Lead and manage a team of production workers, including scheduling, training, payroll, attendance, and performance management. Interpret and follow union contract. Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, communication, and productivity. Provide guidance and coaching to workers to meet production standards and improve performance.
Reporting and Communication:
Prepare daily or weekly production reports, including output, defects, downtime, and labor performance. Communicate with management about production progress, challenges, and any required support. Coordinate with other departments such as quality control, maintenance, logistics, and engineering to ensure smooth operations.
