Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Supervisor to lead day-to-day operations of our SMT production line. The SMT Supervisor will ensure high-quality, on-time manufacturing of printed circuit boards (PCBs), maintain process control, supervise and develop the production team, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize throughput, yield, and safety in a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise and coordinate all activities on the SMT production line, including stencil printing, pick-and-place, reflow soldering, and inspection.
Lead, coach, and develop a team of SMT operators and technicians; manage shift schedules, training, and performance reviews.
Monitor production performance metrics (yield, throughput, uptime) and take corrective actions to meet production targets and quality standards.
Implement and maintain process control procedures, standard work, and documentation for setup, changeover, and preventive maintenance.
Oversee first article inspections, in-process quality checks, and final inspection to ensure conformance to PCB assembly specifications and IPC standards.
Collaborate with engineering, soldering/repair, and quality teams to troubleshoot process issues, root-cause failures, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Manage material flow and communication with procurement for SMT consumables (solder paste, stencils, components) and ensure proper storage and handling.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, SMED) to reduce cycle time, scrap, and rework while improving safety and morale.
Ensure compliance with EHS policies and industry regulations, and enforce cleanroom/ESD protocols where applicable.
Report production status, quality metrics, and improvement progress to plant management and participate in capacity planning and new product introductions.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Electronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent technical diploma, or equivalent experience in PCB assembly manufacturing.
Minimum 3-5 years hands-on experience in SMT operations and at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role in electronics manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of Surface Mount Technology equipment and processes, including stencil printing, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and automated optical inspection (AOI).Familiarity with PCB assembly practices, IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001), surface mount components, and solder paste process control.
Proven leadership skills with experience coaching teams, managing shifts, and improving team performance.
Demonstrated experience with process improvement methodologies (Kaizen, 5S, root cause analysis) and basic statistical process control (SPC) tools.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Ability to read assembly drawings, BOMs, and process documentation; proficiency with MES or ERP systems is a plus.
Willingness to work flexible shifts and support production requirements, including overtime and weekend coverage as needed.
