Production Supervisor Job Description The Production Supervisor oversees day-to-day production operations, ensuring all goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. This role leads and supports production personnel, coordinates schedules and material flow, and drives continuous improvement in a food manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Supervise daily production activities to ensure all operational goals, quality standards, and production targets are met. Facilitate production needs and oversee day-to-day operations on the assigned shift. Use the IFS ERP system to assign production schedules and manage coverage for employee breaks and lunches. Coordinate work assignments when production lines are down, including cleaning lines and manifolds. Assist operators with product and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain product quality. Monitor raw material needs and supply within the IFS ERP system, order required materials from in-house supply, and follow up on requisitions to ensure materials are received, available, assigned, and back-flushed correctly. Report production data, downtime, and issues during the shift using Redzone. Ensure compliance with company policies and enforce food safety and people safety regulations. Address employee relations issues promptly and effectively, including issuing corrective actions when necessary. Coordinate production flow between different departments within the facility to maintain efficient operations. Ensure proper start-up and shut-down procedures are followed for all production lines and equipment. Maintain product quality through proper sanitation, housekeeping, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Collaborate with the Quality Assurance department to ensure products are produced within specifications. Motivate and guide employees to improve efficiencies and meet performance targets and expectations. Communicate mechanical and process issues in Redzone to the appropriate personnel and follow up to ensure timely completion of repairs. Contact management and contractors regarding major equipment breakdowns or repairs. Investigate workplace accidents as needed and complete required accident reports. Support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and process improvement activities within the production area. Provide clear, consistent communication to production staff regarding expectations, changes in schedule, and operational priorities. Essential Skills Proven production supervision experience in a manufacturing environment, including prior supervisory responsibilities. Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold team members accountable. Experience in food production with knowledge of Foods/GMP and food safety practices. Mechanical knowledge, including familiarity with high-speed packaging machinery in a manufacturing setting. Experience working in a union environment. Proficiency with PC applications, including Word and Excel. Experience using order-processing and ERP systems, such as IFS. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across departments and with various levels of personnel. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate production flow across departments. Ability to enforce safety and quality standards consistently and fairly. Additional Skills & Qualifications Foods/GMP experience or certification is preferred. Background in process improvement, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing methodologies. Experience with production management tools such as Redzone for reporting and communication. A 4-year college degree is preferred. Ability to analyze production data and use it to improve efficiency and reduce downtime. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address mechanical, process, and personnel issues effectively. Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing priorities. Work Environment This role is based in a food manufacturing facility on the 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The environment is very clean and generally comfortable, though it can become a bit hot and somewhat loud at times due to production operations. The site operates with approximately 60 employees at the Bensenville location and about 60 employees at the EGV location, fostering a collaborative and team-oriented atmosphere. The facility uses technologies such as the IFS ERP system and Redzone for scheduling, material management, and production reporting, as well as high-speed packaging machinery and standard production equipment. Employees work in a setting that emphasizes sanitation, housekeeping, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure food safety and product quality. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Bensenville, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $67000.00 - $70000.00/yr.
