Job Description

We're looking for a skilled, hands-on leader to join our Custom Build Department as Assistant Manager. This role is built for someone who takes pride in the craft of carpentry and woodworking, knows how to get the best out of a team, and is ready to help grow a department from the shop floor up. You'll work side-by-side with craftspeople in production, occasionally travel to lead special project installations, and help shape how our team operates day to day. Responsibilities Leadership & Team Assist in managing and mentoring a team of carpenters and woodworkers in the shop and on-site Support hiring, onboarding, and training as the department grows Assign daily tasks, monitor workflows, and keep production on schedule Build and maintain a positive, safety-first shop culture Production & Craft Hands-on involvement in custom carpentry and woodworking builds from start to finish Maintain quality standards throughout every stage of production Troubleshoot technical challenges and support the team on complex work Manage material inventory, tooling, and equipment maintenance Site & Project Work Travel to client or project sites as needed for special installations Lead on-site, coordinating with clients, contractors, and internal teams Ensure all site work is delivered on spec and on schedule Operations Communicate production updates and team needs to department leadership Help improve shop processes for better efficiency and output quality Support scheduling, job tracking, and documentation Qualifications Required 5+ years of hands-on carpentry and/or woodworking experience Proven ability to lead or supervise a team in a shop or production setting Strong working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, welding and woodworking machinery Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and shop plans Willingness and ability to travel for special projects Strong communication and organizational skills Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends Preferred Experience in custom millwork, cabinetry, or architectural woodworking Background in a custom build, fabrication, or manufacturing environment Familiarity with production scheduling tools or shop management software OSHA 10 or 30 certification, or equivalent safety training Bilingual English/Spanish Benefits $70,000 - $80,000 salary, commensurate with experience Health benefits and
