Job Description

Job Title:
Production Supervisor Job Description The Production Supervisor oversees an entire shift in a busy industrial manufacturing facility, leading multiple departments to meet production goals safely and efficiently. This role spends the majority of time on the production floor, working directly with team members, monitoring operations, and ensuring that production capabilities and quality standards are consistently achieved. The supervisor coordinates closely with other supervisors across shifts to maintain smooth handoffs, address issues, and drive continuous improvement throughout the plant. Responsibilities Lead and supervise the entire shift across 4-5 departments, each with approximately 4-5 team members, ensuring all areas operate safely and efficiently. Spend roughly 70% of time on the production floor conducting plant walk-throughs, observing processes, and working directly with team members to support daily operations. Ensure production goals, quality standards, and output requirements are met throughout the shift, taking proactive action to address any bottlenecks or issues. Conduct pass-over meetings with the previous supervisor to review what was completed, what remains outstanding, and any downtime or issues, then create and execute a clear action plan for the shift. Monitor team performance and productivity, providing guidance, coaching, and feedback to help employees perform at their best. Apply strong people-management skills to motivate, develop, and, when necessary, discipline team members in a fair and consistent manner. Oversee multiple departments simultaneously, ensuring coordination, communication, and alignment with production priorities and schedules. Promote and enforce safety practices and procedures across the shift, ensuring all employees follow established safety standards and protocols. Support and participate in process improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall operations. Serve as the primary leader in charge of the facility during the shift, and assume responsibility for other supervisors' areas when they are absent, after receiving cross-training in all parts of the facility. Collaborate with management and other supervisors to communicate issues, share updates, and support continuous improvement across shifts. Maintain a clean and organized work area and encourage the team to uphold housekeeping and 5S principles where applicable. Essential Skills At least 4 years of experience as a production supervisor in an industrial manufacturing environment. Proven experience managing 15 or more employees across multiple departments. Hands-on supervision experience in a production or manufacturing setting. Strong supervisory and management skills, including the ability to lead, coach, and hold team members accountable. Demonstrated ability to motivate teams and drive productivity while maintaining quality and safety standards. Experience working with ISO standards and maintaining compliance within a manufacturing environment. Solid understanding of safety practices in an industrial or manufacturing facility. Effective people skills, including employee development, performance management, and discipline when necessary. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work across several departments during a shift. Strong communication skills to coordinate with previous and following shifts and to clearly direct team members. Experience with lean manufacturing concepts and process improvement initiatives. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in food manufacturing, which closely aligns with the facility's production processes. Experience applying multiple leadership and managerial styles, such as servant leadership and more directive approaches, and knowing when to use each effectively. Demonstrated success driving process improvement in a manufacturing environment. Comfort working in a fast-paced, hands-on supervisory role with frequent presence on the production floor.
