About Westville Correctional Facility:
Westville Correctional Facility is a multi‑level security facility located in Westville, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,400 incarcerated adult males. Originally built as a state hospital, the campus was converted to a correctional facility in 1979. The institution offers numerous programs focused on education, re‑entry, and community service. Partnerships include Gold Standard Truss, which operates a truss manufacturing site on facility grounds, and the Moreau College Initiative through the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College. Incarcerated individuals can develop valuable vocational and academic skills. Staff maintain an environment that promotes safety, structure, and rehabilitation. Role Overview:
As a Plant Foreman at the Westville Correctional Facility, you will be given guidelines, technical manuals, and performance expectations, and be required to exercise independent judgment as necessary to supervise a shift of incarcerated individuals without direct supervision. You will be responsible for the quality of goods produced and staying on the production schedule. In this position, you will be responsible for the completion of job assignments and the accuracy of records, forms, reports, and technical information disseminated. Guidance is received from the Lead Foreman or Plant Manager in determining work assignments.
Salary Statement:
 The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the
Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows: Supervise offender workers in the production work of assigned shop. Provide on-the-job training to offenders in the manufacturing, processing, and/or shipping of products. Ensure that the offenders register and fulfill the training according to work processes as defined by United States Department of Labor (USDOL) Apprenticeship Program. Perform or supervise the set up and maintenance of equipment. Provide all applicable safety training to offender workers for assigned areas of supervision. Monitor quality control of finished goods and work being performed. Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position. Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following: Thorough knowledge of one or more of the areas of manufacturing, including knowledge of equipment maintenance and set-up. Ability to follow production schedules and monitor quality of work. Ability to resolve operational problems. Ability to supervise offenders performing work that requires exactness and accuracy, while ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with custody policy and procedure. A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 4 years of experience in the production of goods or services, or related experience, may be considered. Substitutions may include each 2 years of high school for 1 year of the required experience, or completion of an accredited vocational training program related to the area of assignment for up to 1 year of the required experience, along with experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered. Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
