Job Description

CMM / Metrology Supervisor - Manufacturing Floor Quality Supervisor Position Summary The CMM / Metrology Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing floor CMM operations, supporting production quality activities, and ensuring consistent execution of inspection processes across the manufacturing floor. This role works directly under the Quality Manager and serves as the technical leader for dimensional inspection, metrology training, inspection process discipline, and manufacturing floor quality support. This position combines hands-on CMM expertise with leadership responsibilities, including employee development, inspection oversight, process standardization, and cross-functional support to machining and manufacturing teams. Key Responsibilities CMM & Inspection Oversight Supervise daily operation of manufacturing floor CMMs and inspection activities. Prioritize inspection workload to support production flow and customer delivery requirements. Ensure inspection programs are properly executed, validated, and maintained. Verify dimensional inspection results and ensure compliance with customer drawings and specifications. Review and approve first article, in-process, and final inspection activities as required. Coordinate resolution of dimensional or inspection-related issues with machining, engineering, and quality teams. Ensure proper calibration status and care of inspection equipment. Manufacturing Floor Quality Support Act as the primary quality support resource for machinists and production personnel. Drive consistency in inspection methods and interpretation of prints, GD&T, and customer requirements. Monitor inspection process compliance throughout the manufacturing floor. Support containment activities and corrective actions related to dimensional nonconformance. Assist with root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions. Ensure inspection documentation is accurate, complete, and traceable. Training & Employee Development Train machinists and manufacturing floor personnel on: In-process inspection techniques Proper use of measuring equipment Blueprint reading and GD&T fundamentals Inspection documentation requirements Quality expectations and standards Develop standardized inspection training materials and work instructions. Mentor employees to improve measurement competency and inspection ownership. Evaluate employee inspection capabilities and identify skill gaps. Process Improvement Standardize inspection processes and improve inspection efficiency. Support implementation of quality systems and process controls. Identify opportunities to reduce repeat dimensional issues and improve process capability. Work with manufacturing leadership to improve in-process quality ownership. Assist in development of visual inspection standards and manufacturing floor quality systems. Leadership Expectations Lead by example with professionalism, urgency, accountability, and technical competence. Maintain strong communication with production, engineering, and quality leadership. Create a culture of quality ownership and process discipline. Provide constructive coaching and support to manufacturing floor personnel. Escalate risks, recurring issues, or resource constraints proactively. Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence goals. Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of CMM programming and dimensional inspection experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Experience with PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar CMM software.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and inspection methods.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment including: o Micrometers o Bore gages o Height gages o Surface plates o Optical comparators o Portable CMM / probing equipment
  • Ability to train and mentor employees effectively.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Previous supervisory or team leadership experience. Aerospace, defense, medical, or high-precision manufacturing experience. Understanding of AS9100 or ISO quality systems. Experience with first article inspection and SPC methods. Experience supporting production machining environments. Combination of desk work, inspection lab work, and production floor support. Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting of components and inspection equipment.
