Production Supervisor / Group Leader Job Description The Production Supervisor (Group Leader) supervises a team of employees in a high-volume machining plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role requires consistent application of national and local union agreements and the use of independent judgment within Global Manufacturing Systems, with a strong focus on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). The position offers the opportunity to develop new skills and influence the evolution of manufacturing processes that support the transition to electric and autonomous vehicles. Responsibilities Supervise and lead a group of production employees in a high-volume manufacturing environment, ensuring daily production targets are met. Consistently administer national and local agreements with the United Auto Workers (UAW), ensuring fair and compliant application of union policies. Apply Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) principles and use independent judgment to make technical and operational decisions within established procedures. Focus on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE) in all daily activities and decisions. Oversee CNC machining operations for components such as camshafts and connecting rods, ensuring proper setup, operation, and maintenance of equipment. Monitor production performance, identify issues, and adjust manpower and resources to maintain workflow and meet production schedules. Respond quickly to production issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective corrective actions in a fast-paced environment. Promote and support continuous improvement initiatives, using data and metrics to identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and quality. Ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures, fostering a strong safety culture on the shop floor. Provide clear direction, coaching, and feedback to team members to support performance, development, and engagement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address production challenges, improve processes, and support overall plant objectives. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to production, staffing, and compliance with established procedures. Support implementation of new manufacturing processes and technologies related to electric and autonomous vehicle components. Work flexible shifts, including second and third shift and frequent weekend work, to support continuous operations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of direct supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive. Proven experience working in high-volume manufacturing and production environments. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced operations, including strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle ambiguity. People leadership experience, including leading teams and providing direction on the shop floor. Exposure to unionized environments and experience working with UAW or similar unions. Mechanically inclined with a solid understanding of production and machining operations. Experience with production management and production supervision in a manufacturing setting. Strong focus on safety and quality in daily operations. Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to use data to drive process improvements. Experience with lean manufacturing principles and practices. Ability to adjust manpower and resources quickly in response to production issues. Willingness and ability to work second and third shifts, as well as frequent weekend shifts, as a strict requirement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in automotive manufacturing environments. Experience in CNC machining, CNC machines, and machining operations. Experience in maintenance or repair related to machining or production equipment. Familiarity with assembly operations in a production environment. Knowledge of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) or similar structured manufacturing systems. Experience working in a machining plant focused on components such as camshafts and connecting rods. Prior experience with continuous improvement tools and methodologies in manufacturing. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with production teams and union representatives. Work Environment This role is based in a machining plant that specializes in CNC machining operations for components such as camshafts and connecting rods. The facility operates in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and adherence to Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) and SPQRCE principles. The standard schedule includes Monday through Friday, with weekend work required; candidates may work 2 to 3 consecutive weekends before receiving a weekend off. There is active discussion that Saturday and Sunday could become regular workdays, with scheduled days off potentially shifting to weekdays such as Wednesday and Thursday. Candidates must be open to both second and third shifts. The second shift typically runs from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with the expectation to arrive 30 minutes before the shift and remain 30 minutes after. The third shift begins Sunday night and runs from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., also with the expectation of arriving 30 minutes early and staying 30 minutes after the shift. The work involves operating and overseeing technical machining equipment in an industrial production setting, requiring adherence to plant safety rules and procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bay City, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.
