Saint Paul, MN Job Details Full-time $36 - $40 an hour 18 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Paid time off Full Job Description Position Overview Stronix is a growing manufacturing business that designs, sources, and supplies exhaust, thermal, and fabricated component solutions for industrial engines and equipment. As our operations continue to expand, we are seeking a hands-on Metal Shop Technician to support daily production and fabrication activities. The Production Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, high-quality, and on-time execution of all in-house manufacturing activities. This is a very hands-on leadership role: the Supervisor is expected to work alongside and backfill the production team as needed, especially in the early stages of growth. The role leads day-to-day shop operations, develops the production team, establishes shop-floor processes, improves workflow, and builds a high-performing production culture.

Key Responsibilities Production Leadership:

Lead daily shop-floor operations and keep work moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Work directly in production and backfill production roles as needed, including during growth, peak workloads, staffing shortages, or complex projects. Assign and reassign work, set daily priorities, balance workloads, manage labour resources, and approve routine overtime within established guidelines. Supervise, coach, train, and develop production employees. Conduct performance discussions and probation reviews, document concerns, and support hiring, discipline, promotion, and termination decisions, with final approval by the General Manager. Promote cross-training and hold the team accountable for daily priorities, deadlines, quality, safety, and shop standards.

Quality, Safety & Shop Standards:

Ensure products meet company quality standards, customer specifications, drawings, work instructions, and tolerances. Own the development, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of shop-floor SOPs and work instructions, in coordination with the Quality Manager and established quality requirements. Enforce safety requirements, conduct regular shop inspections, address unsafe conditions, and ensure required PPE and safe work practices are followed. Investigate production and quality issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence, in coordination with the Quality Manager as appropriate.

Planning, Equipment & Continuous Improvement:

The Operations Planner owns the master production schedule. The Production Supervisor owns day-to-day execution of that schedule on the shop floor. Execute the priorities and due dates established in the master production schedule. Escalate material shortages, drawing issues, equipment problems, quality concerns, or floor disruptions early when they may affect delivery dates. Communicate daily with the Operations Planner, Engineering, Purchasing, the Quality Manager, and the General Manager on production status and risks. Ensure production equipment is used safely and kept in good working condition. Report maintenance needs and coordinate repairs to reduce downtime. Maintain shop organization, housekeeping, and production consumables. Keep accurate production records and support labour tracking and production reporting. Identify and implement practical improvements to productivity, quality, workflow, tooling, shop layout, and labour efficiency. Accountability Success in this role is measured by: Safe operations and compliance with shop standards. On-time completion of production priorities and early reporting of schedule risks. Product quality, first-pass yield, and effective corrective action. Labour productivity, production flow, and efficient use of resources. Team performance, development, accountability, and continuous improvement. Preferred Qualifications Hands-on production and leadership experience in fabrication, welding, machining, or a similar industrial manufacturing environment. Experience leading a small production team and handling day-to-day coaching and performance conversations. Strong working knowledge of shop-floor scheduling, production flow, engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and quality control. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is an asset. Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience is an asset. Physical Requirements & Work Environment The physical demands below reflect the essential functions of this hands-on production role. Regularly stand and walk for extended periods on the production floor. Frequently reach, bend, stoop, crouch, and work in varied positions while inspecting work, handling materials, accessing equipment, or supporting production. Regularly handle parts, materials, hand tools, measuring equipment, controls, and other production equipment. Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lb independently. Use team lifting or material-handling equipment for heavier or awkward items. Move safely around workstations, production equipment, material storage areas, and active forklift or material-handling traffic. Perform hands-on fabrication or production work when required, including during staffing shortages, peak workloads, training, troubleshooting, or complex work. Wear all required PPE, including safety footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and task-specific protective equipment. Work is performed primarily in an active metal fabrication and manufacturing environment. Regular exposure includes welding, cutting, grinding, machining, moving equipment, noise, sparks, dust, fumes, and other metal-shop conditions. Follow established safety procedures, machine guarding, ventilation requirements, designated work zones, and PPE standards. Work around hot surfaces, sharp metal, moving machinery, and other controlled shop hazards.
