Job Title:
Field Superintendent Job Description This role oversees the full mechanical scope of work for school construction projects, including ductwork, sheet metal, HVAC installations, and piping. You coordinate field crews and subcontractors, review and build from mechanical drawings, stage materials, and work closely with project management to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence. Current openings support major projects at middle and high school facilities with varying duct and piping scopes. Responsibilities Oversee the full mechanical scope of work on site, including ductwork, sheet metal, HVAC systems, and piping in an active school environment. Review and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications, and ensure field work aligns with the design and project requirements. Lead, coordinate, and direct field crews and subcontractors to complete work safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. Plan, stage, and manage materials and equipment to support uninterrupted field operations and minimize downtime. Coordinate daily activities and sequencing of work with project management and other trades to maintain project schedule. Monitor and enforce safety protocols on site, leveraging OSHA 30 training to maintain a safe work environment. Oversee installation of rooftop units and related HVAC components, ensuring proper handling and placement. Supervise pipe cutting and installation activities, verifying quality and compliance with project specifications. Track progress in the field, identify potential issues early, and collaborate with project management to implement solutions. Maintain clear communication with stakeholders regarding site conditions, manpower needs, and schedule impacts. Support site logistics, including access, deliveries, and storage of materials, to keep the job site organized and efficient. Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork among all field personnel and subcontractors. Essential Skills Minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction management or field supervision for mechanical trades. Proven experience overseeing full mechanical scopes, including ductwork, sheet metal, HVAC systems, and piping. Strong ability to read, interpret, and build from mechanical drawings and technical specifications. Demonstrated field leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate crews and subcontractors. Hands-on experience with material planning, job coordination, and site logistics. Experience managing schedule and safety on active construction sites. OSHA 30 certification (required). Experience with rooftop unit installations and related mechanical systems. Proficiency in overseeing pipe cutting and installation activities. Strong communication and organizational skills with a focus on safety, quality, and schedule. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on projects within school districts is a major plus. Experience in mechanical construction environments with a mix of duct and piping work (for example, projects with varying duct-to-pipe ratios). Ability to collaborate closely with project management, other trades, and site stakeholders. Capability to adapt to changing schedules and shift times as required by school operations. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address field issues quickly and effectively. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based on active school construction sites, overseeing mechanical work in both middle and high school buildings. Standard hours for both projects are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with one project transitioning to a 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. shift in September to accommodate the school year schedule. The work is performed in a field environment with exposure to typical construction conditions, including rooftop work, mechanical rooms, and indoor and outdoor areas. You will work closely with field crews, subcontractors, and project management, using typical construction tools and equipment related to ductwork, sheet metal, HVAC systems, and piping installations. Appropriate construction attire and personal protective equipment are required at all times on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carle Place, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
