Assembly Supervisor Level II - 3rd Shift Interested in an opportunity to join a leader in the pump industry? The Gorman-Rupp Company, headquartered in Mansfield, Ohio, has been designing, manufacturing, and selling pumps and pumping systems for use in water, wastewater, construction, industrial, original equipment, agriculture, fire protection, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, and other liquid-handling applications for over 90 years. We have an immediate opening for an Assembly Supervisor. The Supervisor Level II provides leadership and operational oversight for production activities within the Assembly Light and Heavy Department to ensure products are assembled, packaged, painted and shipped safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company quality standards. This role plans, coordinates, and directs daily assembly operations while supporting production schedules, workforce effectiveness, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Supervisor leads, trains, and supports assigned employees, enforces work standards, and promotes a safe, productive, and team-oriented work environment. This position regularly works in manufacturing areas where forklifts and other powered industrial equipment are in use and is responsible for enforcing safe material-handling practices, traffic controls, and certification requirements. When required to operate powered industrial equipment, this role is considered safety-critical and must comply with OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910.178) and all company safety policies. Essential Functions and Basic Duties 1. Assembly Operations & Workflow Management Plan, organize, and direct daily assembly operations to meet production schedules, quality requirements, and efficiency targets. Assign work, balance workloads, and adjust staffing or priorities to maintain workflow and minimize delays. Review and interpret production schedules, work orders, drawings, and specifications to plan departmental activities. Ensure materials, tools, equipment, and information are available to support daily production requirements. Monitor workflow and investigate causes of production delays, inefficiencies, or quality issues; take corrective action within scope of responsibility. 2. Leadership, Training & Employee Development Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for assigned employees. Train employees on assembly processes, job expectations, quality standards, and safe work practices. Ensure employees are properly trained and authorized to use tools, equipment, and production processes. Oversee powered industrial truck (PIT) operations within the department, including forklift safety practices, traffic controls, certification requirements, and compliance with OSHA standards. Maintain positive employee relations, address concerns, and enforce company policies consistently. Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, transfers, rate changes, and disciplinary actions in coordination with management. 3. Safety, Quality & Compliance Ensure all assembly operations are conducted safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and quality standards. Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing PPE use, safe material-handling practices, and proper equipment operation. Conduct routine safety observations and address unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly. Monitor product quality and ensure adherence to established assembly procedures and inspection requirements. Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions related to safety, quality, and compliance. 4. Inventory, Equipment & Facility Coordination Monitor inventory levels of departmental materials, tooling, and supplies; initiate requisitions as needed. Coordinate maintenance and repair of assembly equipment and tools, including scheduling outside service when required. Ensure work areas, equipment, and storage locations are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition. 5. Communication & Cross-Department Coordination Serve as a liaison between Assembly, Quality, Maintenance, Shipping, and other departments to ensure smooth material flow and issue resolution. Communicate production status, concerns, and improvement opportunities to management. Participate in meetings related to production planning, process improvement, and safety initiatives. Ensure timely and accurate communication of department updates and expectations to employees. 6. Work Standards, Documentation & Continuous Improvement Ensure accurate completion of production records, timekeeping, and required documentation. Monitor employee adherence to production standards, work instructions, and schedules. Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, efficiency, and cost reduction. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the department. 7. Other Duties Complete special projects and additional assignments as directed. Support company objectives related to operational excellence, safety performance, and customer satisfaction.

Education / Certification

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in a technical, industrial, or management-related field preferred but not required. Forklift (tow-motor) certification required or ability to obtain and maintain certification. Experience Required Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment. Proven experience coordinating workflow, managing production teams, and enforcing quality and safety standards. Experience with employee training, scheduling, and performance management in an industrial setting. Ability to interpret production schedules, technical documents, and engineering specifications.

Physical Activities, Requirements, and Work Conditions Physical Demands:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

Hearing & Visual Requirements:

Close visual acuity required to read work orders, schedules, and specifications; normal hearing required for communication and safety awareness.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, seasonal temperature changes, and forklift traffic.

Safety Requirements:

Strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures is mandatory. Required use of PPE, enforcement of forklift traffic rules, and participation in powered industrial truck (PIT) training and recertification as applicable.
