Job Description

SUMMARY Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in assembling parts or assemblies into units by performing the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following.
  • Responsible for timekeeping of employees in work area.
  • Conducts safety training.
  • Conducts on the job training.
  • Assists with production coordination.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates capacity requirements for completion of daily load.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Reports machine and equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel.
  • Maintains powder and wet paint inventories, submits purchase orders as required.
  • Sometimes performs activities of workers supervised. Supervises and assists with the following operations:
  • Computation and control of paint mixture formulas.
  • Planning sequence of tasks for painters in powder and wet spray paint booths.
  • Adjustment of furnace temperatures, paint supply, hydraulic pressure, or conveyor speeds.
  • Maintenance and control of pretreat systems.
  • Inspection of painted surfaces for paint coverage, flow of paint, and color quality.
  • Measures thickness and viscosity of paint applied to objects.
  • Positions parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or following blueprints.
  • Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners.
  • Operates hand drills, drill presses, punch presses, staplers or riveting machines to assist in operations.
  • Installs parts, such as shafts, levers, or bearings and works them to assure free movement.
  • Test or assist in testing operation of complete product.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together.
  • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
  • Assures parts comply with drawing specifications.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Other duties may be assigned.

EXPERIENCE
Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two-years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
