Job Title:
Sheet Metal Foreman Job Description The Sheet Metal Foreman leads and supervises field sheet metal crews while working hands-on to install ductwork systems for commercial and industrial projects. This role oversees layout, fabrication, and installation of duct systems, ensures work quality and code compliance, coordinates manpower and materials, and collaborates closely with project stakeholders to meet production goals and deadlines. Responsibilities Lead, supervise, and actively work alongside sheet metal crews in the field to complete projects safely and efficiently. Install ductwork systems, including rectangular, spiral, and custom-fabricated components, according to project specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications to plan layout and installation of duct systems and related materials. Perform layout, measuring, cutting, and installation of ductwork, hangers, supports, and related sheet metal components. Ensure proper installation of hangers, supports, and air distribution systems in accordance with codes and project requirements. Coordinate daily manpower, materials, tools, and jobsite priorities to maintain productivity and workflow. Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and other trades on-site to resolve conflicts and maintain project schedules. Monitor job progress regularly to ensure production goals, milestones, and deadlines are met. Inspect completed and in-progress work for quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Troubleshoot installation issues in the field and implement effective solutions in real time. Maintain a safe and organized work area and promote adherence to safety procedures and best practices among crew members. Essential Skills 5+ years of sheet metal experience with at least 2+ years in a foreman or lead role. Strong hands-on experience with ductwork installation and layout for commercial or industrial projects. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and shop prints accurately. Proven experience leading and directing field crews while remaining productive on the tools. Solid knowledge of HVAC systems and air distribution components. Proficiency with duct installation methods, including rectangular, spiral, and custom fabrication systems. Understanding of construction practices and jobsite coordination in a multi-trade environment. Ability to inspect work for quality, accuracy, and code compliance and correct deficiencies promptly. Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot installation issues and implement timely solutions. Effective communication and coordination skills for working with project managers, superintendents, and other trades. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 10 certification preferred. Experience coordinating manpower, materials, and equipment for field crews. Familiarity with applicable mechanical and building codes related to ductwork and HVAC installation. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple jobsite needs simultaneously. Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized jobsite. Work Environment This is a field-based role with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work takes place on active construction sites, coordinating with multiple trades and project teams. The position involves hands-on installation of ductwork and related sheet metal components, frequent use of hand and power tools, and regular review of construction drawings and shop prints in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
