Job Description
Tank Specialty Supervisor The purpose of this job is to provide supervision and coordination of workers (both skilled and unskilled) engaged in specialized aboveground storage tank (AST) construction, maintenance, and repair projects, specifically focusing on external and internal floating roof tanks . The goals of this position include scheduling repair and retrofitting sequences to meet timetables in a safe manner, per API 653 standards, project plans, and specifications, and to meet estimated costs . This position requires maintaining an excellent working relationship with inspectors, tank owners, vendors, and subcontractors . Other duties may be assigned . Supervisory Responsibilities Skilled and semi-skilled hourly employee-owners Specialized tank welders, boilermakers, and mechanical technicians Functional Areas of Responsibility Manage onsite equipment fleets including rigging, specialized welding units, and air monitoring equipment Recruit hourly trade personnel with tank experience Execute "Look Ahead" schedules for confined space entry and hot work Manage craftsmen, equipment, and material resources Logistics planning for heavy crane lifts and plate staging Execute project Work Plans and specialized tank repair procedures Work crews productively and efficiently; meet daily cost objectives Technical training regarding specialized floating roof components Purchasing of unincorporated materials, seals, tools, and supplies Maintain a strict confined space and safe workplace environment Quality of work and compliance with

tolerances Specific Duties and Responsibilities Planning Review tank drawings, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine the scope of repair, material needs, and specialized manpower requirements for each phase Execute Work Plans for major components of work and monitor adherence to specific tank degassing and hot work permits Execute established procedures for ordering self-perform materials, supplies, and tools from approved suppliers Ensure timely requisition is made for needed seals, drain components, and mechanical hardware
Floating Roof Technical Specialties Seal Replacement:
Lead teams in repairing or replacing primary and secondary rim seals, including wiper, liquid-mounted, or mechanical shoe seals.
Roof Drain Systems:
Supervise the installation, testing, and replacement of emergency roof drains, articulation joints, siphons, and pontoon drains.
Structural Roof Integrity:
Coordinate repairs for buckled or sunken floating roofs, replace roof support legs, execute seal-welding of compromised pontoons, and oversee the structural integration of geodesic dome covers. Cost Performance Monitor daily labor costs and production rates for accuracy and conformance with repair budgets Take corrective action to improve productivity when labor costs exceed expected norms Encourage craftsmen to develop innovative methods for increasing efficiency, productivity, and safety during tank modifications Execute hourly timecard reporting Maintain all equipment assigned to the crew, including blast equipment, ventilation fans, and gas detectors Responsible for proper storage and lockout/tagout of all specialized equipment at the end of each day Scheduling Provide a detailed construction plan for each day and a general plan for one week, aligning with tank out-of-service windows Manage scheduling of all QA/QC inspections, including vacuum box testing, tracer gas testing, and radiographic inspections necessary for owner acceptance Quality Management Inspect work in progress and ensure that it is performed within API tolerances Take corrective action when tolerances, weld profiles, or overall performance standards are not being maintained Relationships Manage the crew into an effectively coordinated, highly safe working unit while promoting a motivating atmosphere Foster the training and development of subordinates through on-the-job training in tank-specific crafts Recommend personnel actions, such as promotions, discharges, and disciplinary measures Supervise the work of specialized subcontractors to ensure compliance with plan specifications and schedules Safety Conduct Toolbox and JHA Safety Meetings, specifically addressing confined space entry, Lock-out/Tag-Out procedures, hydrotesting, blast cleaning, and hot work safety Enforce all safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies Technical Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and work quality on floating roof structures Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and API guidelines Perform a variety of tasks associated with project completion, including floating tests, puncture testing, and demobilization Maintain a detailed and accurate daily report of all activities associated with field construction and repair activities Ensure that equipment is being used safely and for its intended purpose Interpret company policies to workers and disseminate the Equal Employment Opportunity Policy during Safety Meetings Fill out the Foreman's Daily Control correctly with hours, job numbers, cost codes, and completed quantities Qualifications Required for this

Experience:
