Full Job Description Title:

Fabrication Manager Summary:

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Fabrication Manager looking to grow their career at a reputable dredging company with a great family culture. Directly reporting to the Vice President of Technical Services, the Fabrication Manager is responsible for managing CAPEX, repairs, and modifications of dredge and associated equipment while maintaining project budgets. Additionally, this role oversees staffing, discipline, and development of direct report crews, shop operations, and maintenance of workshop equipment.

Company is a Texas-based, family-owned marine construction and dredging contractor serving both public and private sector clients. They specialize in critical waterway maintenance, restoring berthing depths for ship docks, and keeping high-traffic navigation channels open, primarily along the Gulf Coast. The company leverages an impressive, modern fleet of cutter suction dredges, headlined by major high-capacity vessels. Beyond standard dredging, Company also executes complex marine infrastructure projects, shoreline protection, and coastal environmental restoration.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and manage detailed budgets for all CAPEX, construction, repair, and modification projects for dredge and associated equipment.
• Manage projects from design development through completion by modeling, drawing, and programming appropriate software for CNC machines, working cohesively with CNC Operators and Fabricators to meet specifications and deadlines.
• Develop, evaluate, and improve fabrication methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling, equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
• Prepare and present forecasts as part of the required profit review process, including implementing corrective actions to resolve problems and restore quality, safety, productivity, or profitability.
• Order all necessary supplies and equipment to complete projects safely and in a timely manner, and ensure periodic maintenance of all shop equipment.
• Oversee day-to-day shop operations, manage staffing, discipline, and development of direct report crews, and work toward increasing operational efficiency and production scheduling.
• Understand and enforce safety, quality control, and production expectations while prioritizing and planning work activities to meet deadlines.
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve existing company programs.

Key Objectives and Performance Expectations:

• Successfully deliver CAPEX, repair, and equipment modification projects within budget and schedule parameters.
• Increase shop operational efficiency, production scheduling accuracy, and workflow productivity.
• Maintain high standards of quality control and safety compliance across all shop operations.
• Effective staffing, mentoring, and development of fabrication crews and CNC operators.
• Ensure proper maintenance and uptime of workshop equipment and tooling.

Qualifications & Experience:

The employee must have:

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong technical knowledge of welding, fabrication, and shop tooling/equipment capabilities.
• Ability to read and understand engineered drawings and blue prints.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, CNC programming/operations, and CAD/CAM software.
• Strong leadership, people management, and oral/written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, plan work activities, and abide by all company policies, procedures, and safety rules.
• High level of dependability, motivation, and problem-solving capability.
