This role is critical to maintaining our reputation with general contractors and public clients. The Landscape Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily field operations on commercial and public landscape and irrigation projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and project schedules. The Foreman leads a crew, coordinates with project management, and maintains quality control standards required for municipal and commercial clients. Key Responsibilities Field Operations & Crew Leadership Lead and supervise a crew of 4-5 field personnel on landscape, irrigation, and sitework scopes Delegate daily tasks and ensure productivity targets are met Train crew members on proper installation methods and safety practices Maintain accountability for crew performance, attendance, and jobsite conduct Project Execution Read and interpret construction plans, details, and specifications Lay out work areas (planting, irrigation, grading, hardscape, drainage) Ensure all installations meet project specifications and local/municipal standards Coordinate sequencing of work (grading → irrigation → planting → punch) Identify and communicate conflicts or plan discrepancies early Quality Control Ensure all work meets company QC standards and project requirements Verify elevations, spacing, and layout accuracy Inspect irrigation systems (pressure, coverage, valve function) Scheduling & Coordination Work with Project Manager/Superintendent to maintain schedule Coordinate deliveries, equipment, and subcontractors Plan daily/weekly workflow to maximize efficiency Adjust crew focus based on project priorities and deadlines Safety & Compliance Enforce OSHA and company safety standards on all job sites Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings Ensure proper PPE usage and safe equipment operation Maintain compliance with city inspectors and public work requirements Equipment & Materials Management Operate and oversee use of equipment (skid steer, mini-ex, trenchers, etc.) Track and manage material usage to reduce waste Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and secured daily Reporting & Documentation Provide daily reports (production, manpower, issues, delays) Track quantities installed (LF, SF, CY, EA) for job costing Communicate progress, delays, and change conditions to management Assist with as-built documentation when required Required Skills & Qualifications 3-7 years experience in commercial landscape construction Proven experience as a crew leader or foreman Strong ability to read and interpret plans and specs
Knowledge of:
Irrigation systems (2-wire, conventional, controllers, valves), plant installation (B&B, container, seeding, sod), grading, drainage, and basic hardscape. Ability to operate construction equipment safely Strong communication and leadership skills Valid driver's license (CDL preferred for some roles) Preferred (Public Work Experience) Experience working on municipal/public projects (parks, ROW, schools, etc.) Familiarity with inspections, punch lists, and city standards Understanding of erosion control, SWPPP, and compliance requirements Ability to manage work under strict schedules and liquidated damages pressure Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Lift 50+ lbs regularly Stand, walk, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods Performance Expectations (What "Good" Looks Like) Jobs stay on schedule and within labor targets Minimal rework or punch list items Crew operates safely with zero incidents Clean, organized jobsite at all times Strong communication with PM and inspectors High-quality installs that pass inspection first time
