In this pivotal role, you will oversee daily shop operations, coordinate fabrication activities, and ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Duties Lead and supervise the steel fabrication shop team, ensuring all work aligns with project specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards. Oversee the fabrication process including cutting, welding, assembly, and finishing of steel components using tools such as plasma cutters, press brake machines, and hand tools. Coordinate daily production schedules, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines. Ensure all welding activities—including
MIG, TIG, FCAW
(Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and welding—adhere to ASME codes & standards and industry best practices. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and fabrication schematics to guide accurate assembly and fabrication work. Operate or supervise the use of power tools, hand tools, rigging equipment, forklifts, and machining tools safely and efficiently. Conduct quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances. Maintain a clean and organized work environment while enforcing safety regulations related to crane operation, rigging, pipe threading, plasma cutting, soldering, and mechanical assembly. Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure specifications are met; provide technical guidance on fabrication processes such as ductwork installation or pipe systems. Train team members on proper use of tools and safety procedures; foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork. Keep detailed records of production activities, inspection reports, safety incidents, and compliance documentation. Qualifications Proven experience in construction site environments or manufacturing facilities specializing in steel fabrication or related fields. Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and technical drawings specific to steel structures. Proficiency in welding techniques including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), welding; certification preferred. Skilled in operating fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters, press brakes, saws, grinders, calipers, micrometers, hand tools & power tools. Mechanical aptitude with understanding of rigging practices for lifting heavy steel components safely using cranes or forklifts. Ability to perform basic math calculations for measurements and tolerances essential for precise fabrication work. Experience with ASME codes & standards applicable to steel construction; familiarity with schematics & technical drawings is essential. Knowledge of pipe threading techniques; experience with manufacturing processes including assembly of structural components is advantageous. Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise teams effectively while maintaining high safety standards. Excellent communication skills for coordinating with project teams; ability to troubleshoot issues promptly on-site or in-shop.
