Job Description
Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Foreman to support and oversee production operations within our structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication shop. This leadership role works closely with the Shop Manager to coordinate workflow, support production crews, maintain quality standards, and ensure projects move efficiently through the fabrication process. The General Foreman serves as a key connection between shop leadership and the production floor, helping crews stay organized, productive, and aligned with company priorities. The ideal candidate has strong experience in steel fabrication environments, understands shop drawings and production workflow, and is comfortable supporting multiple crews in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Duties Support daily coordination of structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication operations. Help organize production priorities across multiple crews and shop areas. Coordinate with foremen, welders, fitters, fabricators, machine operators, material handlers, and shop helpers to maintain workflow efficiency. Review shop drawings, cut lists, fabrication details, and work orders with production teams as needed. Monitor production progress and communicate updates, delays, manpower needs, material shortages, or quality concerns to management. Help balance labor, workflow, materials, and shop resources according to production schedules and project deadlines. Ensure fabrication work meets drawings, specifications, weld requirements, quality standards, and production expectations. Support quality control efforts by identifying fit-up issues, dimensional inaccuracies, weld concerns, or rework needs. Reinforce safety procedures, PPE requirements, equipment safety standards, and housekeeping practices throughout the shop. Serve as a point of escalation for production challenges, workflow concerns, and drawing clarifications. Coordinate movement of materials, steel components, tools, and equipment between work areas. Support training, coaching, and accountability for crew foremen and shop employees. Step in hands-on when needed to support production and resolve shop floor issues. Qualifications Strong experience in structural steel fabrication, miscellaneous steel fabrication, welding, fitting, or related steel shop operations required. Previous experience as a foreman, general foreman, shop lead, or production leader required. Ability to coordinate multiple crews and production areas within a fabrication shop environment. Strong ability to read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication drawings, cut sheets, measurements, and production requirements. Solid understanding of steel fabrication processes including layout, fitting, welding, drilling, grinding, assembly, material handling, and overall shop workflow. Ability to inspect fabricated steel components for proper fit, weld quality, measurements, and overall accuracy. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities. Organized, dependable, safety-focused, and team-oriented. Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or handling large steel components preferred.
