Position Purpose Responsible for converting engineering designs into accurate, fabrication-ready 3D models, drawings, and digital manufacturing outputs that support pressure vessel, structural steel, modular systems, skid packages, and pipe fabrication projects. Using VDC technologies and detailing software, this position develops the models, drawings, spool packages, weld maps, cut lists, and CNC files needed to support fabrication and installation activities. This role serves as a key link between Engineering, Project Management, VDC, and Fabrication Operations, helping ensure designs are constructible, aligned with shop capabilities, and delivered on schedule. The position supports multiple product lines and detailing disciplines, providing flexibility, accuracy, and consistency across fabrication deliverables. Position Responsibilities Detail pressure vessels using Inventor and other applicable software to create accurate fabrication-ready models that align with shop capabilities and project requirements. Design and model industrial structural systems and components, including supports, platforms, stairways, equipment skids, equipment lift structures, and piping or duct supports. Design and detail modular MEP system assemblies for shop fabrication and field installation. Detail skid packages and piping systems using Revit, BIM, and spooling software; generate spool sheets, spool maps, isometric drawings, CNC cut files, and other fabrication deliverables. Program CNC pipe profiling, structural steel cutting, and related fabrication equipment; develop cut lists, material lists, and fabrication files. Convert engineering drawings, field sketches, reports, and design documents into constructible 3D models, fabrication drawings, and isometric drawings. Create weld maps, submittal packages, fabrication drawings, and maintain accurate project documentation and revision records. Perform field measurements and develop drawings to support fabrication and installation activities as needed. Coordinate material requirements, delivery schedules, and project timelines with Project Managers and Shop leadership. Collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, VDC personnel, Programmers, and Shop/Field leadership to support project planning, design coordination, scheduling, and execution. Support cross-training initiatives and flex across pressure vessel, structural steel, modular, and piping detailing assignments to meet departmental workload and staffing needs. Assist with the development and continuous improvement of detailing standards, BIM workflows, fabrication processes, and best practices. Support and maintain a safe and Lean work environment. Other duties as assigned. Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Associate degree in Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Drafting, Construction Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant experience will be considered. Five (5) or more years of experience in fabrication detailing, including pressure vessels, structural steel, modular systems, and/or pipe fabrication. Proficiency with 3D modeling, detailing, and fabrication software, including Inventor, Revit, Tekla, BIM/Spooling software, and CNC programming platforms. Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Tekla preferred. Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding methods, material handling, and shop manufacturing practices. Ability to read and interpret contract documents, P&IDs, engineering drawings, project specifications, and applicable industry standards and codes. Strong desire and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, software platforms, fabrication methods, and Virtual Design & Construction practices. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and support multiple product lines simultaneously. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
