Job Title:
Shop Helper Job Description The Shop Helper supports daily operations in a fabrication shop by safely moving raw and finished steel, assisting with loading and unloading trucks, maintaining clean work areas, and helping production teams with basic grinding, measuring, and material handling tasks. Responsibilities Move raw and finished steel throughout the shop using pallet jacks, forklifts, and overhead cranes. Assist with loading and unloading trucks with raw materials and finished products in a safe and efficient manner. Package materials and finished products securely for shipment and storage. Track inventory and materials moving in and out of the plant, ensuring accurate counts and documentation. Support welders and cutters by grinding and measuring parts according to specifications. Use hand tools, power tools, and grinders to assist with general fabrication and production tasks. Perform basic inspection of materials and parts to identify visible defects or issues. Maintain a clean and organized work area by sweeping metal shavings and removing debris. Handle general labor tasks as needed to support overall shop operations. Essential Skills 3-5+ years of experience working in a shop environment helping to load and unload trucks. 3-5+ years of experience operating forklifts in a production or fabrication setting. 3-5+ years of experience working with inventory and tracking materials in and out of a plant. Proven ability to move raw and finished steel using pallet jacks, forklifts, and cranes. Ability to package and load materials onto trucks and machines safely and accurately. Ability to assist welders and cutters with grinding and measuring parts. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and grinders in a shop environment. Ability to read and use a tape measure for accurate measurements. Ability to clean and maintain work areas, including sweeping up metal shavings. Basic inspection skills to identify visible issues with materials or parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in general labor, general production, or fabrication work. Experience with material handling and inventory control in a fabrication or manufacturing setting. Comfort working around welding, cutting, and heavy fabrication equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with production teams. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a fabrication shop environment with active production operations. The work involves standing, walking, lifting, and moving materials throughout the shift, as well as performing cleaning and sweeping tasks to keep the shop safe and organized. Hours typically follow standard shop schedules and may vary based on production needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbiana, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
