Coffee ProductionPaid Sick Time Employee Coffee Discount About the Role The Roasting & Production Assistant supports the daily operations of the roasting and production department at The Boy & The Bear. This role works closely with both the Head Roaster and the Warehouse Lead to ensure coffee production, packaging, and fulfillment operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position plays an important role in maintaining the quality, organization, and reliability of our coffee production workflow. Responsibilities include assisting with production roasting for all café locations, supporting bagging and packaging operations, preparing and fulfilling online orders, and maintaining an organized and efficient warehouse environment. The Roasting & Production Assistant acts as a key support role within the production team, helping ensure that every coffee leaving our roastery meets the standards of quality, precision, and consistency that define The Boy & The Bear. The Roasting & Production Assistant works closely with the Head Roaster and Warehouse Lead to support both roasting and production needs. This requires strong reliability, and a team-first mindset. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in maintaining organized systems, and understands that every step of the production process contributes to the quality of the final cup served across all of our cafés. Qualifications Minimum two (2) years of coffee roasting experience within the specialty coffee industry. Basic understanding of roast profiles, roast curves, and production roasting consistency.

Familiarity with roasting equipment, roasting software, and production workflows.

Understanding of coffee quality standards and basic sensory evaluation practices. Ability to follow roasting directions and profiles given by the head roaster.

Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain clean and structured work environments.

Ability to work efficiently in a production-focused environment with clear deadlines. Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively within a small production team and communicate clearly with supervisors.

Drivers License required for potentially order deliveries. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements This role is performed in a coffee production and warehouse environment. The position requires extended periods of standing and moving throughout the production space during shifts.

Employees may work in close proximity to hot roasting equipment and other production machinery as part of daily operations.

The role involves handling production materials, coffee bags, and packaging supplies as part of normal workflow.

Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 150 lbs / 72 kg when necessary, following proper safety procedures.

Ability to safely handle heavy green coffee bags and other production-related materials. Work may involve repetitive movements associated with packaging, weighing, and preparing coffee products. Key Areas of Responsibility 1. Production Roasting Support Support the Head Roaster in executing production roasting for all The Boy & The Bear café locations. The Roasting & Production Assistant helps ensure roasting schedules are executed efficiently and consistently. This includes operating roasting equipment, following roast profiles, maintaining roasting logs, and supporting the overall workflow of the roasting department. Maintaining accuracy, consistency, and cleanliness throughout the roasting process is essential to this role. 2. Packaging & Coffee Production Assist with the packaging and preparation of roasted coffee for retail, wholesale, and internal café distribution. Responsibilities include weighing coffee, bagging retail products, labeling coffee bags accurately, and preparing orders for shipment or store delivery. Maintaining efficiency and organization throughout the packaging process is essential to ensure accurate inventory and timely fulfillment. 3. E-Commerce Order Fulfillment Support the preparation and fulfillment of online coffee orders placed through the company website. This includes packing orders accurately, preparing shipments, verifying order details, and ensuring that customers receive products in a timely and professional manner. Attention to detail and care in packaging are essential to ensure a high-quality customer experience. 4. Warehouse Organization & Inventory Support Assist the Warehouse Lead in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse environment. This includes organizing coffee inventory, packaging materials, and production supplies. The role supports basic inventory tracking, restocking of packaging materials, and maintaining operational readiness across the production space. Strong organization and proactive attention to workspace efficiency are important in this area. 5. Team Support & Operational Assistance Serve as a dependable support role to both the Head Roaster and Warehouse Lead, assisting wherever production needs arise. This may include helping with production preparation, supporting equipment setup, assisting with logistics related to store deliveries, or helping maintain workflow efficiency during busy production periods.
