Job Description

Position Description The City of Walnut Creek is seeking to hire Production Assistants to join the team at the Lesher Center for the Arts, in the Arts and Recreation Department. This position supports the resident professional theatre company, Center Repertory, in various aspects such as costumes, props, and stage. Work schedules will vary depending upon program needs and will include evening, weekend, and extended hours. Under immediate supervision, this position performs a variety of duties related to theatre production support. This is a part-time, hourly, non-benefited position. Representative Duties The Production Assistant supports various aspects of theatre productions. Some of these aspects may include carpentry, cleaning and organizing stage and workspaces, and assisting costume, stage, and props staff.
Qualifications Guidelines Education and Experience:
The hiring team is looking for a candidates who have graduated from high school (or equivalent) and have one year of experience working in community arts (preferably in performing arts). A highly qualified candidate will possess at least one year of experience in technical theatre work, or other related performing arts programs, and works well with the public.
Ideal Candidate Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of practices, materials, resources, and tools associated with theatre production. Knowledge of the basic principles and philosophy of community and professional theatre. Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions to be observed in working around stage equipment and in using power and hand tools. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others. Skill in communicating effectively in English both orally and in writing. Ability to operate tools, office equipment, and/or materials appropriate to the specific job assignment. Ability to respond to numerous public inquiries and disseminate accurate information while maintaining a high level of customer service. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform custodial duties in line with regular and specialized facility maintenance. Ability to effectively utilize computer applications and technology related to the work.
Working Conditions/Required Physical Abilities:
There is significant physical work in lifting and carrying equipment and supplies. The employee must be able to bend, climb, and reach. There may be some hazards associated with working in high places or with chemicals, certain supplies, tools, and equipment. Supplemental Information Candidates selected will undergo California Department of Justice and FBI fingerprinting as part of the background process.
